UPMC Health Plan is hiring a full-time Manager, Onsite Health Coaching to help support the WorkPartners LifeSolutions Department for its downtown Pittsburgh location at the US Steel Tower. This is a Monday through Friday daylight position.

This position will report to the Senior Manager of On-site Health Promotion, and will be responsible for the ongoing operations and development of the on-site health coach team. The on-site health coach manager will serve as the principle liaison between various departments within the Health Plan (such as marketing communications, clinical training and development, operations, and wellness account management) and key contacts/entities within participating business units/client organizations (such as HR and marketing departments and wellness committees) with regard to planning, implementing and successfully delivering MyHealth Coach@Work and derivative products. The on-site health coach manager will be tasked with assessing the daily operations, recommending product changes or adjustments, implementing operational solutions in order to maximize employee-member engagement in lifestyle and overall health management interventions and activities, and optimizing the health status and productivity of the client population. The on-site health coach manager is responsible for assuring that all onsite health coach activities are conducted in compliance with applicable UPMC, UPMC Health Plan, and client organization policies, procedures, and regulations. The on-site health coach manager will support on-site coaches in their professional development.


  • Works on location as needed to provide onsite coaches with guidance, design creative solutions, and optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of the day-to-day delivery of health coaching services, wellness activities, and employee engagement strategies/tactics through all phases of the onsite health coaching agreement. Will also interface with key stakeholders within the customer organization as needed.
  • Assists in the review and interpretation of published literature related to onsite health coach service delivery.
  • Assists in writing and editing onsite health coaching promotion media and articles for in-house and customer promotions.
  • Serves as first point of escalation for procedural/technical issues regarding the effective resolution of onsite health coaching delivery on a case-by-case basis.
  • Works directly with the Sr. Manager of On-site Health Promotion in the creation and ongoing refinement of procedures, workflows, and protocols for the implementation of onsite coaching services in a variety of employer settings such as hospitals, educational institutions, industrial, and governmental accounts.`
  • Exhibits excellent customer service attitudes and behaviors in the performance of all job duties and serves as a healthy lifestyle role model.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of health and wellness benefits and remains current on covered benefits in regard to services available to each customer's employee-members.
  • Responsible for the selection, orientation, training, and transitioning of new onsite health coaches.
  • Supervises the onsite health coaches and monitors all aspects of their performance and service delivery. Responsible for completing required performance evaluations of onsite health coaches and for providing ongoing monitoring and support for achieving any applicable performance incentives.
  • Serves as the liaison between the Sr. Manager of On-site Health Promotion and key stakeholders/collaborators within the customer organization (e.g. HR, Wellness Committee, marketing, and onsite clinic) in building relationships, facilitating best practices delivery of onsite health coaching services, and supporting the customer in developing a worksite culture of wellness.
  • Maintains an awareness of all WorkPartners/Health Plan resources that are available to employee-members, as well as the appropriate referral procedures.
  • Works directly with new customers and their assigned onsite health coach(es) in the development of implementation plans and timelines for roll-out of onsite coaching services, and is responsible for managing any required modifications and timely execution of those plans.
  • Responsible for facilitating professional growth and career development opportunities for direct reports so they can provide superior customer service and maximize their potential to contribute meaningfully to the future goals of the department, WorkPartners, and the UPMC Health Plan.
  • Prepares for and facilitates weekly group supervision sessions for the onsite health coaching staff, via live or virtual meetings. Participates in the development and deployment of virtual training and supervision methods as needed.
  • Maintains a positive work environment that supports a quality driven team and identifies any issues that may inhibit an individual's or the team's performance.



  • Master's Degree in Psychology, Health Education, Exercise Physiology, Counseling, Social Work, Public Health or related field is required. 
  • 5 years of health coaching related experience or 3 years as a telephonic or onsite health coach with a minimum of 3 years of experience planning, implementing and evaluating telephonic and onsite lifestyle intervention programs is required.
  • Leadership experience required.
  • Working knowledge of the health coaching methodology, including Motivational Interviewing communication and health behavior change is required.
  • Working knowledge of health plan administered health coaching, disease management, and strategic wellness incentive programs is required.
  • Ability to conduct and supervise the delivery of a broad range of in-person health and wellness interventions, including but not limited to face-to-face individual and group lifestyle coaching, lunch `n learns, non-invasive biometric measures, and fitness assessments is required.
  • Demonstrated administrative abilities as well as strong organizational, interpersonal, leadership, social networking, problem solving, decision making, team building, and time management skills are required.
  • The ability to interface effectively with all levels of staff within organizations and to work in a team environment with minimal supervision is required.High energy level and excellent written and oral communication skills required.
  • Intermediate-level proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint as well as motivation to learn operation of new software/hardware to support program documentation and data collection required.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
    Certification or credential in health education, health promotion, coaching, counseling, nursing, or a specific health/wellness domain (e.g., physical activity, nutrition, tobacco cessation) is strongly recommended.
