UPMC Health Plan has an exciting opportunity for an Experience Designer I on its Consumer Innovation team, located in downtown Pittsburgh at the Heinz 57 Center.


At UPMC Health Plan, The Experience Strategy team uses human-centered design techniques to elevate the voice of our customers and to build meaningful experiences that address their needs. 

 

As an Experience Designer I, you will work collaboratively with a team of designers who are driving the future customer experience for the Health Plan.  This team delivers customer research and works with stakeholders to align key insights with business goals.  The Experience Strategy team builds and tests solutions to business problems by bringing together cross-functional teams and facilitating design sprints. 


Responsibilities:

 

Research: You will develop customer insights and shared understanding by:

  • Demonstrating a strong human-centered approach to research.
  • Using mixed-method research strategies to answer complex questions.
  • Communicating research insights with techniques like storytelling and visual design.
 

Strategy: You will connect customer needs with business opportunities by:

  • Understanding business strategies, goals, and capabilities.
  • Drawing connections between research insights and business goals.
  • Identifying opportunities for innovation.
 

Design: You will support the business in executing design sprints by:

  • Helping to frame big problems and assemble cross-functional teams.
  • Supporting five-day sprint workshops, each starting with a big challenge and concluding with feedback from real customers on a prototyped solution.
  • Using sprint learnings to activate change and innovation across the business.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in design, UX, product development, communication, anthropology, psychology or related discipline from an accredited college or university (or comparable degree and/or experience.)
  • Experience in a consumer product design, service design, product development or related role (required). Related educational experience including internship/externship will be considered.
  • Experience conducting qualitative and quantitative research through methods such as interviewing, observation, surveys, participation activities, and document and literature reviews.
  • Successful synthesis and analysis of findings.
  • Experience working across the entire design process from user research, insights, ideation, prototyping & iteration, detailed design and bridging to implementation.
  • Experience with digital product development experience with proven ability to translate business and user problems into solid solutions (preferred).
  • Experience in the following with depth of expertise in at least one of them: Information Architecture, User Research, Usability Testing, Interaction Design, Content Strategy, Human Factors, Visual and Information Design, Ethnographic Research.
  • Working knowledge of design tools including but not limited to Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Axure, UserTesting.com, Optimal Workshop, or equivalent software.
