ANCC Magnet designated UPMC Passavant currently hiring a Professional Staff Nurse to support the 4 North - Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at our McCandless location on the Weekends.

 

About 4 North:

4 PCU is a medical progressive care unit that includes 30 private beds. The patient population consists of those individuals requiring a higher level of care than can be provided on the medical-surgical floors but do not require an ICU level of care. 

Typical patients seen on this unit are: post heart catheter, post defibrillator or pacemaker insertion, Congestive Heart Failure, or anyone with a cardiac arrhythmia requiring medicine to control heart rate, stroke, high oxygen requirements and those on IV insulin drips.

 

Our RNs work a rotating schedule that include 12-hour shifts, to ensure 24/7 coverage on the floor. The Weekend position will preferably consist of two 12 hour shifts that range between 7 PM Friday and end on 7 AM Monday.

The Professional Staff Nurse is a valued step in the UPMC nursing career ladder, with opportunities for continued growth and advancement. Title and salary will be determined based upon education and nursing experience. Six months experience is required for Professional Staff Nurses.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Applies the nursing process within the framework of Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment. Formulates daily goals and a plan of care for patients that involves the patient as partner and considers the individual needs of the patient in a holistic manner.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking in the identification of clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual issues for the patient within an episode of care.
  • Practices solid communication skills and is able to articulate and translate the patient's condition to other care providers and to negotiate and make recommendations for changes in patient care and unit practices. Patient documentation is comprehensive and promotes communication between caregivers.
  • Creates a caring and compassionate patient-focused experience by building healing relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Incorporates national professional organization as well as business unit and health system goals to improve patient safety, quality, and satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Minimum six months experience required.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Ability to work 12 Hour shifts preferred.
  • Availability to work Weekends only required.
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
UPMC approved national certification preferred.Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse.CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

ACLS required or obtained within one (1) year of hire One (1) year of current RN experience required

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIH)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 34
