Description

Purpose:

Serves as a member of the Executive Management Team and provides clinical/medical leadership to the organization. Oversees multiple departments including Quality and Care Management, Customer Service, Pharmacy, Psychology and Medical Affairs. Has a special focus on engagement and collaboration with counties and relevant state entities (OMHSAS, DDAP, DOH among others) well as leading medical input in performance improvement. Supports leadership team in efforts to develop new business opportunities and an enhanced public profile.



Responsibilities:
  • Maintains confidentiality of health plan information with no infractions.
  • Addresses sensitive issues and programs with tact and diplomacy in dealing with the board of director and health plan staff, as well as regulatory agency personnel and company customers.
  • Assists in the implementation of recommendations made by regulatory and accrediting bodies.
  • Serves as liaison between administration, the medical staff, and nursing leadership, when appropriate, in resolving issues of mutual concern.
  • Acts as spokesperson in local, state and regional medical affairs and makes presentations as requested.
  • Provides medical direction for the implementation of health care delivery, adherence to medical policies and procedures and the organization and coordination of medical functions.
  • Participates in the development of goals and plans, as well as a wide variety of operating policies.
  • Promotes the health plan's image and maintains a positive and helpful attitude toward employees, physicians, visitors, and the community to enhance the health plan's reputation.
  • Exhibits integrity, courtesy, and respect for others.
  • Participates as a member of the administrative, medical staff and board committees as requested.
  • Continually reviews and appraises changes in short and long-term goals and objectives.
  • Maintains knowledge of current medical practices and medical-administrative matters by attending appropriate seminars and conferences and reading appropriate books, journals and other literature.
  • Maintains professional, pleasant and effective communications both internally and externally.
  • Participates in developing medical and administrative policies and procedures through membership on various medical staff committees and participation in bi-weekly executive staff meetings.
  • Presents self in a positive manner reflected by personal attire and etiquette.
  • Provides medical input into planning and budgeting processes tempered by economic, staffing and political considerations.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited medical school.
  • 5-10 years of clinical practice and progressively responsible medical administrative experience required.
  • Board Certification in Psychiatry required
  • Advanced interpersonal and analytical skills required.
  • Must possess good oral and written skills, must be able to communicate clearly with all age groups, populations, and individuals
  • Effective data analytic skills.
  • Consistently seeks out continuing education activities relevant to practice area and needed to maintain licensure
  • Attains initial and mandatory training as defined by UPMC
