Description

This position is in the Laboratory of Dr. David A. Lewis (http://www.lewislab.pitt.edu) in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Lewis’ lab seeks to understand the neural circuitry of the prefrontal cortex and the alterations of this circuitry in schizophrenia. This individual will participate in ongoing Lewis Lab research projects and will also provide support to our NIH NeuroBioBank and Tissue Repository (NBB) which collects, characterizes and distributes postmortem human brain specimens for brain disorder research. 

This position will be responsible for participating in research activities supporting Dr. Lewis’ research studies including cryomicrotomy, immunocytochemistry, and histological and molecular techniques. 

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, neuroscience or related field with a minimum of one year of experience in a research project and/or related laboratory setting. Knowledge of neuroanatomy and neuroscience laboratory techniques. Prior experience training and supervising new staff and trainees preferred. 

This is a grant funded position. 


Purpose:
Independently execute job functions for research protocol(s). Collect and gather research data for research project.

Responsibilities:
  • Independently execute job functions for research protocol(s) including recruitment, scheduling appointments, obtaining written consent forms, collecting data by conducting phone or face to face interviews for research project(s).
  • Collaborate with senior research personnel regarding recruitment, data collection, outcomes of interviews, reports according to the needs of the study.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in psychology, neuroscience, sociology or related research field.
  • Minimum of one year of work experience in a research project and/or related clinical setting is required.
  • Familiarity with computers and common software packages required.
  • Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred.
