Description

Purpose:
Perform assigned tasks, assume responsibilities delegated by Senior personnel and participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team with an emphasis on a Creative and Expressive Arts Therapy specialty area (music, art, dance/movement or drama therapy) conducted with assigned individuals in groups.

Responsibilities:
  • Request and care for supplies responsibly and appropriately with consideration for the safety of the population.
  • Supervise students only when stipulated and supervised by CEAT Program Director, CEAT II or II staff.
  • Learn and use up-to-date technology and practices in delivery of patient care.
  • Credential worksheet for Art, Music, Dance/Movement and Drama Therapy.
  • Effectively conducts C&EAT group therapy sessions (these may include the following treatment formats; psychotherapy, psycho-education or skill focused groups) in a specific C&EAT discipline.
  • Documentation includes assessments, treatment progress notes and evidence of collaboration with treatment team.
  • Attend CEAT department meetings regularly.
  • Perform assigned work in a timely and productive manner.
  • Maintain on-going communication with unit and CEAT staff.
  • Manage crisis situations effectively using positive approaches and promotes positive patient experiences.
  • Provide for CEAT specialty training/orientation activities as requested by CEAT Program Director.
  • Attend two-five unit based or institute wide in-services yearly.
  • Document in the Medical Record according to established policies.
  • Maintain competency requirement towards registry/certification and CEU requirements once registry/certification is attained.
  • Attend interdisciplinary meetings and other activities as needed.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy, Drama Therapy or a related Mental Health field from an accredited college or University is required.
  • Coursework in music, art dance/movement or drama therapy theory and methods, psychiatric diagnosis and assessment, psychopathology, personality theory, human development, individual and group psychotherapy required. 
  • The ability to communicate both orally and in writing is implied in the Master's degree and also required.
  • One (1) year of experience providing group therapy using a C&EAT discipline (music, art, dance or drama therapy) is necessary.  
  • Two (2) years of Art Therapy experience highly desired.
  • Graduate internship training hours count as experience for this position.
  • The incumbent must be physically capable of providing direct total physical care to unpredictable, potentially violent mentally ill patients as necessary, including lifting, supporting, running towards or away from areas where problems are occurring and pushing and pulling equipment such as wheel chairs.
  • May in the course of their job duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with medications is allowed.

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
