Statistician

Description

Do you have strong data management skills? Are you looking for an opportunity that provides a flexible schedule? UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital is hiring a Statistician to support the Melhem department by providing statistical support and direction to various research projects. This opportunity is part-time and will work 20 hours per week. The schedule is flexible within daylight hours on Monday through Friday.  

This research program is focused on the neurobiology of stress response and suicidal behavior and on studying the familial, genetic, environmental, and biological mechanisms implicated in depression and suicidal behavior in youth. The studies consist of mechanistic and translational studies aimed to understand the biological mechanisms in the HPA axis and inflammatory pathways implicated in stress responses and in the onset and course of depression and suicidal behavior; and to identify biomarkers for these phenotypes that could translate into clinical practice.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and carry out statistical analysis
  • Collaborate closely with outside investigators as needed to complete publications etc.
  • Document analyses and constructs used in analysis.
  • Participate in the preparation of manuscripts and research reports and presentations from data generated by these studies.
  • Write new programs for data analysis and conduct new data analysis as needed.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Statistics, Psychology, or a related Social Science field is required.
  • One year of relevant experience with statistical analyses and packages (e.g. SAS, SPSS, R) and Microsoft Office components (e.g. EXCEL, Word, PowerPoint) preferably in research setting.
  • Experience with Stata or R is preferred.
