Description

Do you have patient communications related experience? The Communication Specialist I works with a design team to create a broad range of patient, family, and visitor communication pieces. Examples include: clinical educational content, informational handbooks, program brochures, testing information, letters, and various instructions. This is an opportunity to be a part of a collaborative team with a passion for our patients and their families. In this role, effective communication is crucial to excellent patient care and the patient experience.

Responsibilities:
  • Continuously refine and maintain the processes used by the department and external vendors.
  • Demonstrate service-oriented behavior in interactions with clients and co-workers.
  • Handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize projects appropriately.
  • Serve as marketing communications liaison to management staff and medical staff of clinical and nonclinical programs, providing consultation and strategic communications planning where appropriate.
  • Manage communications projects of varying levels of complexity and sophistication as assigned. Complete projects on strategy, on time, and within budget, as applicable.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, health sciences, or a related field required.
  • Completion of UPMC Summer Associate Program preferred. 
  • A masters degree in a related field is preferred. 
  • Current experience within health care communication is preferred.
  • Must have knowledge of traditional and digital marketing best practices, excellent communication, multitasking, organizational, research/interviewing, writing, grammar, and interpersonal skills.
