Under the supervision of a licensed Psychologist, the Research Psychologist Associate provides psychological services which may include, but is not limited to, psychological testing, evaluations, and treatment.

This position is in the Laboratory of Dr. David A. Lewis (https://www.lewislab.pitt.edu/) in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh.  Dr. Lewis' lab seeks to understand the neural circuitry of the prefrontal cortex and the alterations of this circuitry in schizophrenia.  This position is part of our NIH NeuroBioBank and Tissue Repository (NBB), which collects and characterizes postmortem human brain specimens for brain disorder research.

As part of the NBB Clinical Psychologist team, this position will review cases for postmortem human brain donation, make next-of-kin donation request calls, perform postmortem diagnostic interviews and postmortem clinical assessments.  Review clinical and treatment records, compile and write case histories, perform data entry, and present cases at postmortem diagnostic conferences.

Responsibilities:
  • Screens for the presence of safety and priority issues and takes appropriate action when identified.
  • Practice in a way that recognizes and respects diverse populations.
  • Maintains regular supervisory time with a licensed psychologist.
  • Diagnostic Evaluation and Treatment: Provides diagnostic developmental and behavioral assessment of patients with a variety of developmental, behavioral and mental health concerns. Conducts focused interviews to elucidate the nature of the presenting problem as well as relevant developmental, psychological, behavioral and social contributions to the problem. Provides behavioral health services, using empirically validated treatments and interventions. Provides behavioral health services in using an acute and maintenance model. Schedules sufficient volume of patients so that direct service productivity standards are maintained within the department.
  • Under the direct supervision of a licensed psychologist, job responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, providing: Psychological Testing: Provides input concerning appropriate tests and evaluation tools utilized by the division. Administers, scores, and interprets appropriate standardized tests and behavior rating scales. Prepares comprehensive, clearly written analysis/reports. Cooperates in research projects as compatible with clinical schedule and patient needs.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Psychology or related field and actively enrolled in a program to obtain an advanced degree in Psychology required.
  • One (1) year of experience in psychology or related field required.
  • Excellent clinical interviewing and assessment/therapy skills to work with patients and families. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Act 34
