The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for cleaning and repairing hospital equipment. 

  • Exhibit integrity, courtesy, and respect for others.
  • Perform ground maintenance including lawn care and snow/ice removal during the winter season.
  • Assist in carpentry activities as they related to repairs, renovation or constructions.
  • Paint and install/repair vinyl wall covering.
  • Promote the hospital's image and maintain a positive and helpful attitude toward employees, physicians, visitors, and the community to enhance the hospital's reputation as a health care center.
  • Demonstrate dependability, reliability and independent judgement recognizing priorities to
  • Demonstrate cost consciousness through efficient use of time, materials, staff, equipment, supplies and available resources.
  • Adhere to department Policy and Procedures Manuals.
  • Maintain outdoor equipment in good working condition.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all outdoor equipment including hospital motor vehicles.
  • Repair wall surfaces prior to application of finishes.
  • Maintain professional, pleasant and effective communications both internally and externally.
  • Present self in a positive manner reflected by personal attire and etiquette.
  • Perform security function when required.
  • Operate cars, light trucks and maintenance equipment.
  • Maintain, repair and install all types of miscellaneous equipment (such as wheelchairs and carts).
  • Establish and maintain good rapport and cooperative relationship with medical staff, co-workers, supervisors and others.
  • Transport System equipment and materials.
  • Maintain confidentiality of hospital and department information with no infractions.
  • Accommodate department needs and acceptance of appropriate authority.
  • Tracking of equipment
  • Repair and maintain various types of durable medical equipment
  • Organization and maintenance of repair area including inventory of tools.
  • Safely and efficiently drive and use hospital transportation including MERP van.
  • Knowledge of metal scrapping process and the value of different types of metal and values.
  • Customer services functions including face to face interaction and answering phone calls.
  • Assisting with pick up and delivery of equipment including interaction with community members.


  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Vocational/technical training in 1 or more skilled trades preferred.
  • Maintenance experience preferred.
  • Drivers License preferred
  • May in the course of their duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with medications is allowed.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 34
