The Telehealth Strategy & Solutions team at UPMC Health Plan is working to leverage telehealth technologies & applications to make health care delivery more convenient, lower cost, and more member-centric. 


As the Senior Manager of Strategic Initiatives, you will be part of our team of rock stars working to identify, develop & prioritize a portfolio of telehealth initiatives, as well as leading the implementation of those new strategies & solutions for the UPMC system.  The initiatives will range from new reimbursement arrangements, network engagement strategies, new clinical use cases for telehealth, and new product strategies.  You’ll work alongside colleagues in product development, digital health, technology, business transformation, and human-centered design, and have the opportunity to collaborate with business & clinical partners across the UPMC system and beyond. 

 

The primary role of this position is to work with UPMC leadership, product management, clinical partners and portfolio companies to deliver innovative solutions. The Senior Program Manager is responsible for forming strong partnerships with internal teams (across engineering, product management, research, clinical disciplines) to drive timely, accurate and appropriate implementation.


This position requires independent thinkers, able to troubleshoot problems, work through ambiguity, prioritize effectively, and create processes that improve delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate activities, statuses, accomplishments
  • Manage cross-functional teams with credibility, with matrix reports of engineers, analysts, operational staff and clinical partners
  • Manage multiple projects and timelines, at all stages of development (from early discovery through entry to market)
  • Interface with peers to develop a strong working relationship between all groups. Seek opportunity to provide assistance and wherever possible.
  • Create and develop a team environment, including building collaborative relationships, training peers to perform at maximum efficiency and for cross-functional coalitions to ensure knowledge is shared across teams.
  • Responsible for developing, monitoring, and executing project plans, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Work collaboratively with partners to monitor progress, identify risks, manage tradeoffs and develop solutions
  • Manage and mitigate risks. Establish escalation processes and ensure timely reporting and resolution of issues. Inform core team, stakeholders, and senior management of major issues that will impact project success. Work with Senior Management to resolve major issues that cannot be solved by the project team alone. Be the escalation point-of-contact for projects within the program.
  • Handles stakeholder communication for all internal and external stakeholders
  • Participate in defining and implementing the process roadmap and project management best practices to boost productivity, quality and efficiency
  • Develops key metrics and KPIs to measure overall performance
  • Mentor and/or directly supervise junior program managers
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, design software and a Macintosh OS

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field
  • MS or PhD preferred
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in managing multiple concurrent projects, of a large scale and a high level of complexity.
  • PMP certification preferred
  • Prior work with product or service implementation a must; experience in healthcare operations, clinical research or startup development preferred.
  • Previous experience in a strategy-based role preferred
  • Superior organization and project management skill: planning, coordinating, prioritizing, and delivering against objectives
  • Proven ability to be a proactive advocate and negotiator, setting appropriate expectations and building effective, long-term cross-team relationships
  • Demonstrated success working with technical teams and deploying solutions that scale
  • Demonstrated experience managing cross-functional teams including team members from multiple business units and different operational departments
  • Ability to focus on the big picture within a constantly changing, fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to ramp up quickly and work across boundaries to provide value
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to persuade and influence others.
  • Experience presenting information to C-level executive management teams
  • Demonstrated expertise in project management, including developing planning tools, oversight mechanisms and communication tools
  • Self-starter and independent thinker, who can manage his or her own daily work, operate smoothly under pressure, balance competing priorities and delivery effectively
