Sign-On Bonus Details (Full Time or Flex Full Time status)
• $10,000 sign-on bonus available for nurses with over two years of experience
• $5,000 sign-on bonus available for Graduate Nurses and nurses with less than two years of experience

*Part Time status positions are also eligible for sign-on bonus at a prorated amount - $5,000 for experienced nurses with over 2 years of experience, and $2,500 for GNs and nurses with less than 2 years of experience

  

UPMC Altoona is currently hiring a full-time Staff Nurse to support various units including med/surg, medical progressive care, and surgical progressive care as part of a special rotational program. 

  • The rotational program will begin in August 2020. Selected participants will rotate through various units (Tower 10 (med surg), Tower 11 (med surg), Tower 14 (med surg), medical progressive care unit, and surgical progressive care unit) for six months. Each GN will be mentored by a nursing leader, and experienced preceptors will oversee each rotation, making this a fantastic opportunity to learn from other talented nurses. At the end of the rotations, you will be matched through a mutual matching process with consideration to union seniority with a participating unit or you may remain in the resource pool.

     

    Our nurses work a rotating 12-hour schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage on the floor.

    The Staff Nurse provides highly competent patient care and treatment while demonstrating empathy and a passion for learning. A role that requires independent judgment, fluent communication, and candid partnership, the Staff Nurse establishes relationships with physicians, other care providers, patients, and patients’ families in order to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. 

    As a Registered Nurse and a member of the care delivery team, you will set the standards for the level and quality of nursing care and possess authority and accountability for its provision.  At all times, you will exemplify a commitment to the community and to the nursing profession.

    The Staff Nurse is a valued step in the UPMC nursing career ladder, with opportunities for continued growth and advancement; Graduate Nurses are encouraged to apply (GNs must be eligible for State Board Licensure and successfully pass the examination before beginning this role). Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the My Nursing Career Ladder based on their individual experience and education.

     

    An Associate level degree is required but Bachelor level degree candidates are highly encouraged to apply.


Qualifications

Education and Formal Training Required:

  • Must hold a current license to practice nursing in the State of Pennsylvania

  • Must satisfactorily complete the Nursing Departments orientation program and probationary period.

  • Must complete NIHSS education prior to end of orientation period, if required.

  • Experience Required: None.

  • For all positions in Critical Care: CCRN is required within two years of hire date. RN-C or CCRN required for MPCU and SPCU within two years of hire date.

  • ACLS preferred, BLS required. PALS for specific units.

  • When assigned to STICU, T14-Surgical, T11, 5E, SPCU, must complete the Trauma Nurse Course within one year of hire. Must maintain six stroke and six trauma competencies per year. Must attend Trauma Symposium yearly.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Basic Life Support or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
  • National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Certification, if required
  • Registered Nurse
