UPMC is seeking a full-time psychologist in our Mechanicsburg location. We are a fast-growing team integrated in a leading provider of quality medicine. Our practice serves Harrisburg and the greater Harrisburg community. Our providers have been recognized with Harrisburg Magazine's “Simply the Best" award for several consecutive years for our outstanding mental health care. Under minimal supervision, this employee is responsible for the delivery of a variety of mental health treatment modalities including individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy, and psychological testing. This position requires skills necessary to coordinate and deliver comprehensive treatment, including acting as primary therapist to a specific caseload, formulating and updating treatment plans, case management duties, and providing community education/consultation.

  • Adequate interpersonal skills are a necessary part of this position. Effective use of both written and spoken language is essential. This employee must have the ability to communicate clearly and understand both verbal and/or non-verbal communication. Sensitivity to differences in ages, developmental levels, and cultural backgrounds is critical. This employee must possess the emotional stamina to deal with a variety of stressful situations on a daily basis.
  • Provides Clinical Supervision as needed.  Performs duties as assigned by Clinical Supervisor.
  • Performs duties necessary to maintain Critical Incident Stress Management Team.
  • Fosters a spirit of enthusiasm, participation, and creativity in accomplishing objectives and solving problems.
  • Provides support to other areas of the system, such as the hospital, emergency department, etc. as an endorsement of the concept of system integration.
  • Utilizes efficient time and resource management while balancing responsibilities in designated program areas.
  • Performs seminars, consultation, or workshops for the system and within the community.
  • Maintains current knowledge of trend and developments in the field by reading relevant books and journals, and attending seminars and workshops for the purpose of maintenance of licensure.
  • Intervenes in crisis situations in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Performs related documentation and paperwork duties, including comprehensive initial evaluation, initial and updated treatment plans, progress notes, contacts with family members, primary care physicians, and other health care providers, and discharge summaries/closing notes.
  • Collaborates with psychiatrists, therapists, and other care providers through attendance at treatment team meetings, and consultations to assure continuity of care.
  • Fulfills on-call responsibilities as required.
  • Provides formal psychological testing and interpretation for the system as needed.
  • Assesses treatment needs and develops appropriate treatment plan.


  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of a wide range of personality dynamics, abnormal behavior, and developmental issues.  
  • Knowledge of a wide range of mental health treatment modalities including individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, milieu therapy, at a level normally acquired by completion of a master's degree in psychology, and knowledge of specialized modalities as appropriate to the clinician's education and training. 
  • Demonstrates competency, knowledge and skill with appropriate treatment modalities to serve targeted age group.  
  • Analytical planning and decision-making skills necessary to effectively make accurate and rapid judgments in critical situations.  
  • These skills and abilities should be acquired during at least five years of experience, three of which should be postgraduate, in a mental health related field.  
  • Must have a Ph.D. or Psy.D.
  • Licensed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
