Sterile Processing Tech Lead

Description

Purpose:
Supervises and instructs staff regarding procedures for specialized sterile and non-sterile techniques required for the preparation and issuance of instruments, equipment and supplies. Performs duties related to the receiving, reprocessing, and distribution of clean and sterile supplies.

Responsibilities:
  • Assigns and organizes all duties related to quality control, CPI, and quality assurance reporting and documentation.
  • Checks supplies upon receiving from vendor or stores. Assists in maintaining inventory and in formulating procedures. Documents loss of equipment and/or supplies. Maintains working knowledge of all products in stock and their appropriate locations.
  • Operates all departmental equipment and performs operator maintenance.
  • Prepares case carts for the Operating Room. Keeps work area clean and neat.
  • Performs all assigned clerical duties, such as answering the telephone, recording of messages, and maintenance of records. Responds to requests in an appropriate and expeditious manner. Complies with established exposure policy. Accepts assignments related to the work of the Department.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of instrumentation and working order for the Operating Room, OB, and other departments.
  • Cleans and restocks CPR carts.
  • Performs all assigned distribution and dispensing functions.
  • Performs all duties related to decontamination, preparation, sterilization/disinfection, and dispatch of instruments, equipment and supplies for the Operating Room, OB, cardiology, ED/Trauma, and Nursing and ancillary departments.
  • Lead departmental workers, including the orientation of new employees and the teaching of new and revised procedures. Prepares work schedules and assignments.
  • Prepares and assembles special items, trays and packs to meet stated needs of all hospital departments.
  • Insures all infection control policies and correct sterilization procedures are strictly enforced.

Qualifications

High school graduate or GED. Graduation from accredited Surgical Technician program or minimum of three years experience in sterile processing or Operating Room setting. Certification in Sterile Processing/Central Processing required within one year.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 34 with renewal
