UPMC Mercy is excited to be hiring a full-time Echocardio Clinical Specialist! This role will be scheduled daylight shifts including rotating on-call, weekend and holiday responsibilities.

Purpose:
In addition to performing imaging procedures at an advanced level, provides technical expertise to multiple business units. Functions as a resource to staff to provide orientation, continuing education and protocol development.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform ultrasound diagnostic examinations in accordance with Level I and Level II Advanced Sonographer.
  • Leads training on new techniques and protocols for research studies and collaborates with cardiologists and researchers where applicable to identify new techniques and problem solving resolutions.
  • Creates and implements new training programs, where applicable, and assists with the startup of new offsite locations. 
  • Responsibilities for new locations include, but are not limited to, working on reporting systems and image management, obtaining appropriate images and effectively communicating with attending physicians as well as co-workers and patients
  • Responsible for tech quality assurance program and the reviewing and updating of protocols alongside of or in place of the lead sonographer.
  • Assumes leadership role in training staff on new equipment.
  • Assist with accreditation responsibilities.
  • Serves as a technical resource to sonographers on a daily operational basis. 
  • Assist technologist with continuing education needs and participates as a peer delegate in staff annual performance reviews.
  • Attends advanced training sessions and seminars in order to maintain industry standards in imaging techniques and disseminates information to imaging departmental leadership and as a part of new hire orientation.

Qualifications

  • Completion of formal training in an accredited ultrasound program or professional equivalent required. 
  • 3 years of ultrasound experience required.  
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography 
  • RDCS certification (Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International RCS certification (Registered Cardiac Sonographer) required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required.
  • Act 33, 34, 73 as required by business unit.
