Maintain, repair and install electrical equipment in the hospital buildings.

Responsibilities:
  • May be required to be on call.
  • Maintains good relations with other members of the crew, other crews, and all other departments so that work is performed in a harmonious manner.
  • Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot equipment failures using complex schematics and diagnostic tools specific to the trade; such as Fluke multimer, megger device, ampobe etc.
  • Is expected to perform any and all other duties related to facility maintenance as deemed necessary by Management that is in the best interest of the hospital, its patients, staff and visitors.
  • Complies with all safety codes whether Federal, State or Local, maintains safe work environment.
  • In addition to passing the City of Altoona journeyman?s test, demonstrates knowledge of medium voltage electrical systems including breakers, transformers, unit substations, switchboards, starters, variable speed drives, and is able to demonstrate this knowledge in both oral and written format.
  • Has working knowledge of low voltage systems such as fire alarm, nurse call, intercom, infant abduction, cable TV, access control and other similar systems.
  • Could be scheduled for off shifts and rotation as needed.
  • Must be available for snow removal as needed.
  • When work priorities demand, performs work other than specialty as required or assigned.
  • Complies with established occupational exposure policies.
  • Responsible for the completion of all service work order assignments in a timely fashion.

Qualifications

  • Education and Formal Training required.
  • High school graduate or equivalent, preferably a graduate from a vocational-technical school is required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Applicant must have a valid journeyman's license that will reciprocate with the City of Altoona 
    • OR minimum of four years experience working under a master or journeyman that will allow obtaining a journeymans license within 18 months of hire through the City of Altoona testing process.
  • Experience Required: Electricians must have a minimum of four years experience in industrial/institutional/healthcare facilities wiring systems.
  • Past work in a healthcare setting is preferred but not required.
  • Completion of four years apprenticeship training under a master electrician, which includes such items as blueprint reading, electricity, mathematics, physics, and electrical safety is preferred but extended years of experience working for a qualified electrical contractor is acceptable.
  • Knowledge of City, State and Federal electrical codes is required.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Driver's License
  • Journeyman Electrician
  • Act 34
