UPMC McKeesport s hiring a Casual RN Liaison o help support the McKeesport Technical Training Center. This position will work as a facilitator//liaison between UPMC McKeesport and McKeesport Area School District's Allied Health Care Program. This position will work primarily Monday-Friday during the school year. 

 

Purpose:
This manager position will be responsible for overseeing operations of the UPMC McKeesport Hospital side of the UPMC/McKeesport partnership for the McKeesport Area Technology Center's Allied Health program. The primary purpose of the position is to provide management, connecting activities and support to students and the teacher involved in the Allied Health hospital rotations and internships. This unique program has been operating in the McKeesport Area School District for over 10 years. The project objectives are : increase student GPA, increase student attendance, reduce dropout rates, increase graduation rates, and provide for hands on learning experiences that lead to employment in health care fields.

Responsibilities:

  • CARE COMPONENTS:Primary link between the high school and UPMC McKeesport Hospital.Individual and Group Supportive services.Health Care Education.Vocational and Career Planning.Coordination of Community Services.Intensive Internship Management.Monitor Attendance and Retention.Individualized Student Education Plans.
  • SERVICE: Monitor students at UPMC McKeesport from 12:30pm-4:00pm, Tuesday and Thursdays.Initiate contact with and maintain communication with preceptors, unit coordinators and department heads at UPMC for start up of the program. To monitor student participation as well as behavior, work ethic and ability while in the facilityTo accompany students for physicals, hospital training in-services, orientation, and any other after school activities that are within the scope of the apprenticeship program. To maintain a record of student attendance and to complete any necessary paperwork required by UPMC.To communicate with the Allied Health teacher regarding student progress and any necessary actions that must be taken by the teacher related to district policies.To work with the district/teacher to maintain and ensure student stipends and enrollment in post secondary C.N.A. classes with Steel Center.
  • SCOPE OF SERVICE TO BE PROVIDED:Coordinate an education program for high school students enrolled in the Allied Health program at McKeesport Area Technology Center. Supervise the responsibilities of the students in their role as interns at the hospital.Maintain and conduct comprehensive reviews of student progress.Assist in the preparation of grant applications for existing funds and program expansion.Complete mandatory reports, summarize services and evaluate program goals. Participate in staff meetings and other workshops designed for the program success.Promote and support appropriate behavior in a health care facility.Collaborate with the teacher to provide modeling of practices that promote learning standards.Assist with transition services leading to employment and post secondary education or training. Completion of all necessary paperwork as dictated by program objectives.Work with teacher to recruit students for post graduation training or employment and assist with the transition of all students from graduation to post secondary school or training.

 

Qualifications

  • Must be at minimum a Registered Nurse with one year of experience, preferably with a BS in Nursing. 
  •  Must demonstrate the ability to work with high school students to assist them with goal setting, performance, appropriate behaviors and discipline as deemed appropriate in the hospital settings.

  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Acts 33, 34 and 73 
  • OAPSA
