Purpose:

Under the direction of a qualified radiologist, performs diagnostic radiology procedures at a technical level that does not require direct supervision. Assume responsibility of the Radiology department and the procedures that are being performed. Completes exams with documentation to be passed on to the radiologist for interpretation. Provides direct and indirect care to patients. Contributes to the education of staff and students.

Responsibilities:
  • Use of PACS.
  • Provides protective devices as required.
  • Selects and operates equipment as directed.
  • Sets up and operates mobile x-ray equipment.
  • Practices sterile techniques and prevents cross contamination.
  • Maintains orderliness and cleanliness.
  • Use of the Radiology Information System.
  • Maintains and correctly develops film by means of CR system.
  • Is responsible for performance of routine or special procedures.
  • Supports department and hospital based CPI activities by actively participating in the CPI process.
  • Rotates within the Department or other areas and by shift as required.
  • Performs quality assurance activities, as assigned.
  • Maintains adequate records as directed on requisitions, etc.
  • Secures and returns needed supplies.
  • Transfers and positions patients.
  • Assists physicians in administering opaque media.
  • Utilizes tracking equipment to ensure accurate record keeping and proper charging of patient exams.
  • Assists in performing first aid as necessary.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability to adapt to clinical treatment and instructional aspect of care to all stages of the life cycle and to various states of health and disease.
  • Selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.
  • Provides protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
  • Complies with established occupational BBF and TB exposure policies.
  • Assists with procedures in surgery and sets up and operates equipment, takes radiographs as directed by the surgeon.

Qualifications

  • Education and Formal Training Required: 
    • High school graduate or equivalent. 
    • Must be a graduate of a radiology technology program, and must be an American Registered Radiology Technologist.  
    • Must possess manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; must be able to adapt to all types of conditions of patients.  
  • Experience Required: 
    • One year as a radiologic technologist.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
  • ARRT Certificate
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
