UPMC Mercy is looking for a self-motivated Clinical Pharmacist to join their inpatient pharmacy to support the Infectious Diseases/Antimicrobrial Stewardship team.  This is a full-time position that will work daylight hours, Monday - Friday. To ensure the provision of cost-effective antimicrobial pharmacotherapy contributing to optimal patient outcomes while minimizing unintended consequences of antimicrobial therapy. To ensure adherence to regulatory standards, and hospital policies and procedures. To provide experiential education for present and future health care practitioners. To support drug-related research and implement quality improvement initiatives.


  • Collects, analyzes, and reports data and monitors the antimicrobial stewardship program (ASP), which may include information on antibiotic prescribing and resistance patterns.
  • Regularly reporting information on the antimicrobial stewardship program (ASP), including information on antibiotic use and resistance to doctors, nurses, and relevant staff. 
  • Educating practitioners, staff, and patients on the antimicrobial program, which may include information about resistance and optimal prescribing. 
  • Assists with the ASP program
  • Actively Participates in the professional growth and development of new employees, students, and residents. 
  • Assist in ensuring departmental compliance with regulatory and accrediting agency standards, guidelines and quality assurance standards.
  • Precepts pharmacy students and PGY-1/PGY-2 pharmacy residents
  • Collaborate in the coordination of the staff's clinical development. Provide continuing education materials and lectures and provides input to the performance evaluation of other clinical staff members.
  • Ensure patient safety through ensuring the monitoring of adverse drug effects via patient chart review; notify physicians of occurrences; make recommendations to physicians for drug dosing in patients with compromised renal and/or liver function.
  • Participate in the Medication Usage Evaluation Program including planning, research, design, and evaluation and reporting results.
  • Participate in the department's Quality Improvement and Performance Improvement Programs.
  • Perform cost reduction measures.
  • Provide drug information to various patient care departments as necessary.
  • Provide pharmaceutical care and monitor drug therapy to affect positive patient outcomes.
  • Provide professional education to medical, nursing and pharmacy staff members and students.
  • Serve on Hospital committees as requested.


B.S. degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D.) from an accredited School of Pharmacy required.
PGY-1 and PGY-2 or equivalent experience in Infectious Diseases is strongly preferred.
Antimicrobial stewardship experience preferred.
Ability to function independently and collaboratively within a team setting. 
Highly motivated, effective communication, problem-solving and organizational skills required
