Lead Medical Technologist

Description

Purpose:
Oversees the technical operation of the assigned area and shift, using mature and seasoned judgment, skills in communication, problem solving, decision making and human relations. Under the direction of the respective Section Supervisor, is able to ensure accuracy, acceptability and confidentiality of all patient information. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to assess, treat, and care for patients according to age-specific needs. Adheres to all compliance and regulatory procedures and policies.

Responsibilities:
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • The Lead Technologist must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of personnel. Works with co-workers in a supportive, helpful and respectful manner. Frequent contact with members of the medical and nursing staffs regarding laboratory test results, methodologies, result interpretation and related inquiries. Promotes teamwork, is open to and supports new ideas.
  • Enforces Pinnacle Health policies and procedures including specific laboratory testing, safety, compliance, and human resource policies.
  • Reviews quality control data, troubleshoots problems and follows up with corrective actions, maintains documentation.
  • Assures effective use of all equipment and instrumentation by laboratory personnel assigned to their shift.
  • Troubleshoots instrument and technical problems and makes appropriate repairs or changes. Documents all actions and reports malfunctions and/or problems to the division supervisors.
  • Reviews daily computer reports (pending logs, critical values, etc.) with follow up to include necessary corrections (and documentation) to patent results, incident reports; in compliance with laboratory inspection and accreditation agencies.
  • Coordinates staff appropriately to meet the workload demands of the section including daily work assignments and emergency or unexpected situations as they may arise. Assists in cross-training and competency assessments of staff.
  • Oversees the activities of the staff assigned to the specific technical laboratory discipline.
  • Performs all of the duties assigned to the staff technologist for the processing of specimens and the performance of clinical testing procedures.

Qualifications

Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP registered) and minimum of three years of clinical experience.Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Medical Technologist (ASCP registered) with degree or equivalent and minimum of three years of clinical experience.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
