Purpose:
Is a member of a healthcare team who assists in the delivery of psychiatric care in the designated unit. Demonstrates competency with interventions and clinical judgment based on unit population and age specific needs.

Responsibilities:
  • Under minimal supervision, this employee is responsible for the delivery of a variety of mental health interventions, recreational or activities therapy, behavior modification strategies, and milieu therapy. Provides assistance to the primary therapist/primary nurse in management of patient needs and support services for effective completion of patient needs.
  • Maintains certification in First Aid/CPR and crisis management, and responds appropriately in crisis situations.
  • Completes admission database and performs ongoing data collections as established by unit standards or patient care.
  • Demonstrates awareness of patient care needs and suggests intervention to achieve each desired outcome.
  • Demonstrates skills and clinical judgment related to care of patients who may be in a depressive state, psychotic state, anxiety disorder, substance abuser, personality disorder, bipolar disorder, etc.
  • Evaluates patient’s progress and communicates patient’s status to charge nurse and/or physician and other healthcare team members, and during change of shift on the psychiatric inpatient unit. Follows appropriate chain of command to address patient related concerns.
  • Participates in development and revision of a plan of care.
  • Provides education based on identified healthcare needs to patient and family members.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalency with 2 years experience in human services which must include one year direct mental health direct care experience.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
