The CEO, Centers for Rehab Services will determine the strategic direction of UPMC Centers for Rehab Services. In collaboration with the President, UPMC Rehab Network and the UPMC Centers for Rehab Services executive team, sets policy and monitors status of institution's operations, finances, human resources, and strategic relationships. Communicates directly with the Board of the organization. Represents Centers for Rehab Services in local, regional, and national forum for purposes of networking, advocacy, performance benchmarking and information exchange. Partners with members of UPMC's care continuum and IDFS on clinical program integration, resource management, and new care model development and implementation. Represents UPMC's rehab services with medical staff, the broader community, and with other organizations, including healthcare providers, both internally and externally of UPMC. 

  • FISCAL MANAGEMENT: -Demonstrate fiscal accountability by establishing a comprehensive budgeting process, sound financial practices, and achievable strategies for revenue enhancement, champion ethics, integrity, and legal/regulatory compliance when executing fiduciary responsibilities. -Develop and implement clear plans on how to address continued labor and reimbursement challenges.
  • STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT: -Develop, implement, and update short- and long-term strategic plans and growth opportunities that support organization philosophy, mission, visions, values, and objectives. Integrate, align, and balance both local and system-wide needs, expectations, and initiatives through collaboration with a variety of executives. -Drive the development, implementation, and strategic growth initiatives of UPMC Centers for Rehab Services
  • ORGANIZATION MISSION, VISION, VALUES: -Provide clear lines of responsibility and accountability both for leaders and staff within and between departments, maintain open, transparent communications with all staff, champion dignity and respect in all interactions, resolve conflict in a fair and consistent manner, fully engage staff in the organization's mission, vision, and values. -Act in a manner that role models and supports the organization's mission, vision, and core values. Manage and mentor others accordingly to meet or exceed these core values.
  • OPERATIONS/RESOURCE MANAGEMENT: -Ensure the provision of affordable care services by overseeing the acquisition, utilization, and organization or available resources (human, financial, and physical) and the development of quality, safe, cost-effective techniques and practices.
  • COMMUNITY & INDUSTRY RELATIONS/SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: -Establish and maintain strong relationships with local health planning agencies, healthcare providers, state and national rehabilitation associations, and private and government funded services and policy/regulatory bodies.
  • EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT-Demonstrated track record of achieving a highly engaged workforce.-Understands the value of employee engagement and the impact to key operating measures.-Displays visible and accessible leadership
  • CUSTOMER/PATIENT SATISFACTION: -Develop and lead a management team focused on the patient experience and care coordination across programs. -Leverage collaborative, matrixed relationships and opportunities to work across business units and maximize individual and organizational performance. -Lead process improvement activities across programs to ensure quality, patient safety, and exceptional overall patient and family experience.


  • A Master's degree in a related field is required.
  • Graduate from an accredited program of physical therapy, occupational therapy or other related program preferred. 
  • A minimum of five years experience in operational management with at least five years experience at a senior executive level and a strong commitment to operations. 
  • Advanced knowledge of physical rehabilitation, in inpatient, outpatient and skilled settings or other post-acute programs and operations. 
  • Expertise in developing strategic and tactical plans to meet business objectives in a large, complex market. 
  • In-depth experience and knowledge of the legislative and regulatory environment and emerging trends in physical rehabilitation, and the broader healthcare arena, including an understanding of healthcare delivery, reimbursement, financing methodologies, cost containment, and new revenue generation strategies. 
  • Advanced knowledge of physical rehabilitation, in inpatient, outpatient and skilled settings or other post-acute programs and operations. 
  • Expertise in developing strategic and tactical plans to meet business objectives in a large, complex market. 
  • Ability to understand the needs of a diverse population and larger corporate structure.  
  • Ability to interact effectively with internal and external strategic stakeholders at all levels.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Pennsylvania Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy or related licensure required

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
