Description

Under the direction of the VP Chief Audit & Compliance Officer and Project Managers, the Corporate Compliance Project Manager is primarily responsible for supporting the organizational oversight, mission and goals of the Corporate Office of Ethics and Compliance. Assistance and support shall include highly complex analysis of data and information sets for company-wide initiatives, research and analysis of state and federal regulations and industry guidance for dissemination across the UPMC organization, monitoring and compiling of reports of compliance activity and behavior throughout the organization as identified through compliance reporting mechanisms, and conducting highly complex and sensitive internal investigations and audits in support of the Corporate Compliance Plan and various underlying compliance programs. The Corporate Compliance Project Manager will also provide guidance and support to entity Compliance Officers throughout the organization. The incumbent is expected to contribute to the implementation and success of ongoing departmental goals.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as primary support for the Corporate Ethics and Compliance offices efforts relating to Revenue Cycle and other special project compliance activities. 
  • Oversees junior Corporate Compliance staff, as required.
  • Facilitate internal investigations
  • Contribute to ongoing departmental goals.
  • Help to enhance and maintain internal and external websites.
  • Possess understanding of health care and industry terminology and risk
  • Assist in developing, maintaining and exhibiting departmental professionalism and reputation. 
  • Effectively communicate and support the values of UPMC to employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Facilitate responses relating to external government audits and investigations for all entities.
  • Perform chart reviews and associated research to assess compliance with coding and billing regulations. 
  • Review and enforce adherence to investigatory workflows for compliance purposes.
  • Collaborate with leadership from relevant operational departments in order to identify and mitigate risk issues at the entity level.
  • Assist leadership on special projects, as assigned. 
  • Contribute to ongoing compliance monitoring activity, including conducting tracking and trending efforts to identify risk patterns and create appropriate remediation plans.
  • Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of departmental and system-wide policies, procedures and tools to support compliance activities.
  • Contribute to the planning, developing and presenting educational and training materials related to specific compliance topics, including annual mandatory training modules, to be utilized across the UPMC organization.
  • Research, compile and interpret state and federal regulatory and industry guidance, as well as internal data, for purposes of analysis and creation of organizational guidance. 
Secondary support responsibilities may include. 
  • Assist with monitoring and reporting of conflict management plans.
  • Facilitate and help analyze Conflict of Interest reporting.  
  • Provide investigatory and research support to the Office of Patient and Consumer Privacy (OPCP). 
  • Assist in meeting various regulatory filing requirement to government agencies, including those imposed under the Deficit Reduction Act (DRA) and Health Insurance Portability Act (HIPAA).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of health care, compliance or other related work experience is required. 
  • An Advanced Degree, Credentialing or Professional Certification in Compliance, Health Care Administration or a related field is required. 
  • Experience in an academic medical center setting is strongly preferred. Extensive knowledge of key revenue cycle processes, clinical documentation and financial operations is strongly preferred. 
  • Data Analytics experience is strongly preferred. 
  • Expert proficiency with associated technology solutions such as Microsoft Excel and Access is strongly preferred?
  • Ability to identify, interpret and summarize relevant policy and regulation in a clear and timely manner is essential. 
  • Experience researching and interpreting regulation and performing internal investigations is preferred. 
  • Must be able to demonstrate a high degree of professionalism, enthusiasm and initiative on a daily basis.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment is a must Must have ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, and forge strong interpersonal relationships within the department, with other departments, and with external audiences.
  • Attention to detail is critical to the success of this position as is the ability to deal with ambiguity? Excellent planning, communication, documentation, organizational, analytical, and problem solving abilities.
  • Ability to learn and identify best practices relating to new technology solutions is preferred.
