Under the direction of the VP, Corporate Controller, the Director, Finance PMO is responsible for management of a centralized project management team in support of system-wide UPMC Finance organization goals and objectives.  The Finance PMO is structured around three primary pillars:  Strategic Projects, Integrations and Financial Systems Support.  The Director oversees PMO-driven projects to ensure that information concerning content (e.g., deliverables, risks, issues, etc.) meet stakeholder expectations and deliver value across UPMC Finance and ensures project leads are poised to meet the objectives and goals of each project. The Director provides leadership in best practices and is highly customer-focused across UPMC.  Additionally, the Director, Finance PMO oversees the functional systems support team supporting various finance information systems, most notably, PeopleSoft.


  • Design and facilitate Project Management training programs and coaching, facilitating knowledge sharing among project managers. Implement standard project evaluation approach to ensure project manager performance meets needs of stakeholders and the organization.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement; advocate for project management methodology through training, role modeling and influencing operations teams. 
  • Ensure that the operational issues of the PMO are managed, focusing on the interface with project leaders, project teams and technology interface issues. 
  • Attract, develop and retain a project management group; provide significant oversight and influence to de-centralized project management resources.
  • Ensure alignment of all system-wide Finance initiatives to current goals and future business strategy.
  • Perform on-going analysis of new project requests; prioritize and de-prioritize efforts based on alignment to overall Finance organization goals.
  • Communicate project status to appropriate stakeholders and executive leadership on a consistent basis.
  • Identify key management and non-management personnel to participate in short-term project teams based on broad knowledge of technology, marketing, legal compliance, finance and operations. 
  • Support and coordinate of work amongst the members of the project management group; identify resource needs (staff and budget) throughout the year. 
  • Responsible for hiring and performance management for centralized project management team 
  • Create and maintain standard project management approach and identify tools, techniques, and policies related to project document retention.


  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or related business field required.
  • Minimum of seven years of related work experience required.
  • Minimum of two years managerial or supervisory experience required.
  • CPA/MBA or equivalent advance degree preferred.
  • Prior experience in project management, large scale deployments, and directly managing project managers preferred.
  • Effective skills in using Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Project and SharePoint.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving and communication skills. Proven ability leading and developing a professional staff.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • PMP and other project certifications preferred. 
  • Quality and auditing certifications preferred (including Six Sigma).
