This Research Specialist position provides support to multiple principal investigators studying the etiology and treatment of schizophrenia, including clinical trials of Cognitive Enhancement Therapy for this population and studies of brain imaging on early psychoses.  The position will support multiple projects in these areas of schizophrenia research, which will include recruitment and screening of patients with schizophrenia for studies, clinical and diagnostic interviewing, neuropsychological testing, data entry, coordination of communication among study team members and sites, administrative duties to support the operation of the studies, allocation of participant payments, and other duties assigned by the principal investigators.


The ideal candidate will have experience in research and experience with schizophrenia. Travel to other sites will be required! 


This position is grant funded. 

Purpose:
Independently execute job functions for research protocol(s). Collect and gather research data for research project.

Responsibilities:
  • Independently execute job functions for research protocol(s) including recruitment, scheduling appointments, obtaining written consent forms, collecting data by conducting phone or face to face interviews for research project(s).
  • Collaborate with senior research personnel regarding recruitment, data collection, outcomes of interviews, reports according to the needs of the study.
Grant Funded Responsibilities:
  • Recruit volunteer participants to research studies
  • Screen subjects for research studies using semi-structured questionnaires and other diagnostic instruments
  • Obtaining informed consent from potential research participants according to ethical principles
  • Administer structured clinical and neurocognitive assessments to complete research evaluations
  • Data entry and cleaning as well as reviewing and resolving discrepancies

  • Development of data queries for statistical analysis

  • Organization of the clinical and cognitive data for analysis

  • Create participant folders, maintain research records, and track participants throughout the studies

  • Distribute participant payment under the formal payment system

  • Educate and train students, volunteers and new recruits 

  • Duplicate assessment forms

  • Attend regular supervision including weekly project meetings 

  • Ability to work independently with little supervision once trained

  • Perform other duties as related to the research project as requested by the Principal Investigators, coordinator and/or supervisors

  • Must be able to juggle and prioritize tasks and keep open communication with the Principal Investigators and supervisors to ensure timely completion of all duties

  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in psychology, neuroscience, sociology or related research field.
  • Minimum of one year of work experience in a research project and/or related clinical setting is required.
  • Familiarity with computers and common software packages required.
  • Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office packages, including but not limited to Microsoft Access databases and Excel spreadsheet programs 
  • Ability to understand and administer instruments for diagnosis (e.g., Structured Clinical Interview for DSM) of various clinical conditions 
  • Experience with patients with severe mental illness, including schizophrenia and other psychotic conditions in either a clinical or research setting 

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
