Supervises front line staff in the Prehospital department, assuming responsibility for their work performance and providing oversight of work flow and processes during assigned shift. Provides on scene direction for prehospital staff. Ensures function of the organization's prehospital units to provide service within the service area. Functions as a paramedic.

  • Rewards, disciplines and evaluates direct reports, using independent judgment; provides input into hiring and involuntary termination decisions.
  • Supervises front line staff in the Prehospital department, assuming responsibility for their work performance and providing oversight of work flow and processes during assigned shift.
  • Provides analysis, advice and recommendations as an individual contributor on smaller projects; may have some project responsibility within the department or across similar departments.
  • Provides input into department's budget; supports the financial goals of Susquehanna Health through individual actions and management of resources.
  • Assists with pre-hospital and in-hospital responses to hazardous materials incidents (including planning, development and operations). Assists in the instruction of staff on hazardous material decontamination.
  • Provides instruction and evaluation of students while in the field setting and assists with instruction and evaluation of didactic and practical sessions are assigned.
  • Provides on-scene direction at incidents, disasters, and hazardous material incidents to pre-hospital staff while working through the incident command system.
  • Assists with the development, implementation and evaluation of Medical Protocols and Standard Operating Procedures for the Pre-hospital System.


  • Three years pre-hospital EMS experience at the advanced life support provider level required. 
  • One year supervisory experience preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Certified Paramedic in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 
  • Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License 
  • Critical Care Certification required within one year of hire 
  • Instructor AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Basic Life Support Instructor (BLSI)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support Provider 
  • Certificate of completion of a PA Act 37 qualified EVOC/EVDT course
  • National Incident Management courses: ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 
  • NIMS ICS 300 or obtain within 12 months of hire 
  • Certificate of completion of a PA DOH Basic Vehicle Rescue course or obtain within 24 months of hire 
  • Certificate of completion of a Hazardous Material Defensive/Operational level - 16 hours minimum Healthcare Leadership (Center for Domestic Preparedness) or obtain within 18 months
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor
  • Emergency Vehicle Operator
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support Instructor (PALSI)
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
