Job Summary:

UPMC Corporate Human Resources is hiring a Benefits Specialist to work at our US Steel Tower!  In this role, you will be responsible for providing service to our physicians around health and welfare as well as retirement.  The candidate will perform technical and specialized work involved in the administration of welfare benefits via the PeopleSoft Human Resource Information System.   You will be responsible for interpreting and ensuring compliance with laws, contractual arrangements and corporate policy.

Responsibilities:

  • Take part in major projects in the benefits area to redesign current programs, processes, and recommendations of new programs. Make revisions to programs currently being used to ensure program compliance with legal requirements.
  • Assist in cost analysis for adding or changing benefit plans and/or contribution strategies.
  • Work with management to implement and conduct open enrollment program.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of the company's benefits programs via PeopleSoft, the Human Resource Information System. Perform tasks related to administrative benefit programs such as medical dental, (IRS Section 125), COBRA, FMLA, disability, life insurance, and other associated benefits as available for 30,000 staff members, doctors and management.
  • Work with Human Resource representatives to train and provide guidance on PeopleSoft system functions such as terminations, leave of absences, new hires, etc.
  • Utilize PeopleSoft to generate management reports related to benefit deductions, eligibility, enrollments, confirmations, event maintenance, plan statistics, etc. Apply knowledge of system when researching and correcting system errors.
  • Assist in the development, design and communication of benefit procedures and programs.
  • Process and pay monthly/quarterly benefit invoices. Coordinate with TPA/Accounting/Payroll to ensure premiums paid are accurate and timely.
  • Interact with and advise employees via Employee Service Center on a range of benefit questions and concerns. Assist with the implementation and on-going maintenance of employee self-service system.
  • Establish processes that are efficient and effective in delivering quality service to customers. Assist in the design and administration of health and welfare plans.
  • Identify benefit plan design needs and works with broker and vendors on improvement and/or addition of benefit plans.
  • Serve as an educator and problem solver for PSD physicians in the area of health/welfare and pension benefit plans offered by both UPMC and the University of Pittsburgh. Collaborate with staff of the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC benefit and pension
  • Conduct one-on-one benefit orientations for PSD physicians. Process all enrollment paperwork. Review new hire benefit paperwork: benefit applications and related documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with all relevant policies and pr
  • Perform benefit analysis for PSD departments for reconciliation purposes.
  • Assist UPMC legal counsel with the permanent residency/Labor certification process by creating required postings within the Perm/Labor Certification guidelines on the UPMC internal and external career websites and PA CareerLink for candidates identified.
  • Assist with the design and coordination of the PSD New Physician Orientation programs. Present benefit plans, and answer questions related to benefits and retirement.
  • Participate in both UPP and University of Pittsburgh annual open enrollment processes. Prepare physician-specific communications and provide one-on-one counseling, or group presentations when appropriate.
  • Post PSD physician recruitment requisitions on UPMC internal and external websites, coordinate distribution of physician applicants and monitor applicant flow for OCR and position specific candidates. Assist PSD in the placement of physician recruitment
  • Assist with the development and identification of educational workshops for physicians and residents in the area of personal finance management.
  • Works collaboratively with and is accountable to PSD Executive Administrators and Executive Management and, if applicable, UPMC Corporate HR, other UPMC organizations, and School of Medicine.
  • Route leave approval notifications and short-term disability attestations to GME office so that appropriate processes concerning reimbursement and the PA State Board of Medicine, Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates and Immigration can be
  • Provide GME specialist with a copy of each leave of absence approval notice so that the correct rotation activity can be recorded in GME ROCS and invoiced appropriately.
  • Advise PSD physicians in the administration of leaves of absences. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of physician rights and obligations as related to FMLA policy. Process all required leave of absence paperwork. PeopleSoft data entry and salary adj

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business or related field required 
  • Three years of experience in employee benefits and/or retirement required
  • Thorough knowledge of computerized Human Resource Information Systems, specifically PeopleSoft, HEAT, COBRA system and tuition database required


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) preferred.
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
