Description

Purpose:
The C &E Art Therapist III assumes responsibilities for supervising CEAT and junior staff, provides management and oversight of CEAT functions as delegated by CEAT Program Director, and functions as an expert clinician specializing in a CEAT discipline (music, art, dance/movement, or drama therapy) by conducting individual and group therapy as an inter-disciplinary team member.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with unit leadership to design group and individual CEAT treatment formats, conducts group and individual CEAT treatment, and trains CEAT and junior staff in delivering treatment formats effectively. Documents assessment, treatment progress, and team goals in the Medical Record. Documents training and supervision activities according to established policies and JCAHO specifications. Articulates managing crisis situations effectively via positive approaches and promoting positive patient experiences in model practice format.
  • Provides oversight for all CEAT functions related to clinical supervision, service delivery, and training issues. Supervises CEAT II staff, Milieu Therapy staff, and graduate CEAT interns. Coordinates CEAT schedules for patient therapy groups and individual sessions with unit leadership and consults with service lines on expanding CEAT services to ambulatory care and other populations. Assists CEAT Program Director with budget oversight and expansion activities such as grant writing, program evaluation and research, and provides coverage for CEAT Program Director in his/her absence. Conducts and coordinates CEAT training/orientation sessions 4-6 times per year, including regional sessions and special conference sessions.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills. Uses skills to focus on collaboration with CEAT and interdisciplinary staff, and professional colleagues outside the organization in efforts to promote CEAT practices, enhance community opinion of the organization, and expand activities of CEAT.
  • Conducts CEAT meetings at the request of the CEAT Program Director. Assists in planning content and scheduling of meetings. Attends all CEAT meetings. Maintains certification in professional association. Maintains PA license. Uses up-to-date technology and practices in administrative and management functions, and in delivery of patient care.

 

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy, Drama Therapy, or in a related Mental Health field from an accredited college or university is required. Coursework in music, art, dance/movement, or drama therapy theory and methods, psychiatric diagnosis and assessment, psychopathology, personality theory, human development, individual and group psychotherapy required.
  • Six (6) or more years of group and individual clinical experience using a specific CEAT discipline (music, art, dance, or drama therapy) is needed excluding internship training experience.
  • Three (3) years of professional supervisory experience in a specific CEAT discipline or closely related discipline.
  • The incumbent must be physically capable of providing direct total physical care to unpredictable, potentially violent mentally ill patients as necessary, including lifting, supporting, running towards or away from areas where problems are occurring and pushing and pulling equipment such as wheel chairs.
  • Superior ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • May in the course of their job duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with medications is allowed.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:



  • Pennsylvania License for Professional Counseling preferred. 
  • Additionally, must have one of the following certifications: Art Therapy (ATR-BC). Music Therapy (MT-BC). Dance/Movement Therapy (BC-DMT). Drama Therapy (RDT-BC).
  • Act 34
