Staff Nurse UPMC McKeesport Graduate Nurse Rotational Program

UPMC McKeesport is currently hiring a Full-time Staff Nurse to support various Med Surg units as part of a special rotational program at our McKeesport, PA location.

Sign-On Bonus Details (Full Time or Flex Full Time status)

• $5,000 sign-on bonus available for Graduate Nurses and nurses with less than two years of experience

*Part Time status positions are also eligible for sign-on bonus at a prorated amount - $2,500 for GNs and nurses with less than 2 years of experience
 
The Med Surg rotational program is a new UPMC McKeesport initiative and will start a new class in July 2020. Selected participants will rotate through various Med Surg units (step-down, ortho/surgical, observation/telemetry, medicine/oncology, and specialty focus med surg floors) for six months. Having a resource nurse as a mentor and having preceptors for each “rotation”, this is a fantastic opportunity to learn from many talented nurses and receive a broad education on Med Surg nursing. At the end of the “rotations”, you will be matched through a mutual matching process with a participating unit or you may remain in the resource pool.

Our RNs work a rotating 8 or 12-hour schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage on the floor.

The Staff Nurse provides highly competent patient care and treatment while demonstrating empathy and a passion for learning. A role that requires independent judgment, fluent communication, and candid partnership, the Staff Nurse establishes relationships with physicians, other care providers, patients, and patients’ families in order to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care.

A Registered Nurse and a member of the care delivery team, you will set the standards for the level and quality of nursing care, possess authority and accountability for its provision. At all times, you will exemplify a commitment to the community and to the nursing profession.

Qualifications

• Spring 2020 graduate of a nursing program. BSN preferred.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families. Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
• Good clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care. Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process.
• Mobility and visual manual dexterity. Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
NIH Certification will be required within 6 months of hire for the following units: ED, CVU, ICU and 4M.CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hireMust complete licensure examination within FOUR MONTHS of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever comes first. Though temporary permits are valid for one year from the date of graduation, not one year from issue of permit (or until the results of the examination are known at which time it becomes null and void), UPMC requires that GNs take the licensure examination within 4 months of their start date or they will be terminated or demoted from the GN position, at the discretion of the BU.
