Senior Director, Data Science (Pensiamo)

Description

The Sr. Director, Data Science will lead a team of data scientists developing machine learning solutions to solve healthcare supply chain problems. The Sr. Director manages the data scientists, ensuring proper execution of functions within the team.The Sr. Director will lead the team's engagement with business and technology stakeholders and partner with these stakeholders in enhancing the existing machine learning methodologies and developing new methodologies to deliver business and commercial solutions.Individuals in this role are expected to be comfortable working as a programmer, a quantitative researcher and a team lead. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in the study of healthcare data, and a passion for identifying and answering questions that help us build the best products.

Responsibilities:
  • Work with Master Data Management team to drive data governance and security.
  • Drive the collection of new data and the manipulation and refinement of existing data sources.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, academic partners, and internal/external stakeholders to design systems for data collection, cleaning, statistical analysis, and predictive modeling.
  • Lead the implementation of strong theoretical and practical knowledge of analytical techniques including mix and time series modeling, response modeling, experimental design, optimization and techniques.
  • Provide guidance on data structures and design for reporting, ad-hoc analyses and propensity modeling driving insights around patients, members and care delivery improvement strategies.
  • Develop best practices for instrumentation and experimentation and communicate those to product engineering teams.
  • Communicate findings to product managers and engineers.
  • Apply state-of-the-art techniques (data mining, machine learning, artificial intelligence, core mathematical-modeling and dynamic processing to data visualization) to extract actionable insights through analysis of large-scale, high-dimensional data.
  • Promote and participate in professional self-development to stay up to date with new technologies and development approaches within the industry.
  • Work closely with the product management team to identify and advise strategic product decisions.
  • Validate assumptions around market problems by using appropriate statistical techniques on available data.
  • Analyze and interpret the results of big data analyses.
  • Contribute Data Science innovations to Pensiamo's product portfolio by Identifying gaps in the healthcare market where commercialization opportunities exist for machine learning
  • Governs technical and methodology approach of the Data Science Team and builds capability of others.
  • Evaluate new hardware and software products and technologies and participate in project assessments as necessary.
  • Provides deep technical expertise to the business (colleagues and other data scientists).
  • Generate conceptual models, sharing and articulating those theories and quantifying the limitations of implemented models.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelors degree with ten years of relevant experience is required to qualify for the position, we can also consider the below combination of degree and experience:
    • A Masters degree and eight years of relevant experience.
    • A PhD and four years of relevant experience will be considered.
  •  Extensive experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches.
  • Extensive experience in complex development environments, taking abstract concepts and ideas and formulating a detailed software engineering plan to deliver.
  • Increasing responsibility throughout the candidate's career should be demonstrated.
  • Comfortable manipulating and analyzing complex, high-volume, highly-dimensional data from varying sources. 
  • A strong passion for empirical research and for answering hard questions with data. 
  • A flexible analytic approach that allows for results at varying levels of precision. 
  • Ability to communicate complex quantitative analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manner. 
  • Deep, hands-on understanding of essential modern programming/scripting languages such as Java, Python, C#, Ruby.
  • Experience with SQL and no SQL databases and data lake solutions. Experience developing commercial solutions in an Agile development environment.
  • Expert knowledge of analysis tools such as R, Matlab, or SAS. 
  • Experience working with large data sets, experience working with distributed computing tools a plus (Hadoop, Map/Reduce, Hive, YARN, Spark, etc.). 
  • Expertise in the following disciplines: 
    • Natural Language Processing: the interactions between computers and humans.
    • Hypothesis testing: being able to develop hypotheses and test them with careful experiments
    • Machine learning: using computers to improve as well as develop algorithms
    • Statistical analysis: to understand and work around possible limitations in models
    • Conceptual modelling: to be able to share and articulate modelling
    • Predictive modelling: most of the big data problems are towards being able to predict future outcomes.
