University of Pittsburgh Physician is hiring a full-time Physician Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner to help support the Pediatric Pulmonology department. This position will work Monday through Friday 8 hours per day at outpatient clinics at UPMC Childrens, Lawrenceville, Bridgeville, and Wexford.

The Pediatric Sleep Evaluation Center at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is the region's leader in diagnosing and treating sleeping problems in infants, toddlers, adolescents and teens arising from medical conditions or from behavioral or developmental problems. The team includes pediatric experts from a variety of fields including psychology, pulmonology, and otolaryngology in addition to sleep psychologist and sleep technologists. They are dedicated to working on innovative ways to improve quality of care delivery in the face of ever changing medicine.

The UPMC Pediatric Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship Program is dedicated to advancing UPMC as the premier educational setting for producing excellence in patient care delivery through an innovative and world-class clinical curriculum specifically tailored to prepare the physician assistant and nurse practitioner to practice in an evolving and increasingly complex health care market.

The UPMC Pediatric APP Fellowship Program cultivates a mastery of pediatric fundamentals including acute care, ambulatory care, procedure performance, and principles of pediatric subspecialty medicine. The Pediatric APP Fellows are employed, paid learners with the goal to provide the manual skill, fundamental knowledge, and critical thinking skills needed to make sound clinical judgments on a daily basis. Pediatric APP Fellows are being trained to provide autonomous comprehensive pediatric care, within the scope of their license and in collaboration with their supervising physician.

The first one year of employment will consist of the UPMC Pediatric Pediatric Pulmonology APP Fellowship Program. Candidates with greater than or equal to 3 (three) years’ experience within Pediatric [INSERT SPECIALTY/DIVISION HERE], will have the option of foregoing the Fellowship Program, but are encouraged to enroll for the most comprehensive onboarding experience possible.

Staff Level:
The Staff Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a Physician Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner and a member of the care delivery team. The Staff APP is responsible to set the standards for the level and quality of care. The Staff APP has responsibility, authority and accountability for the provision of care through supervision by and collaboration with a physician. The Staff APP manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication and collaboration with all team members. The role of the Staff APP encompasses the beginnings of leadership, partnership, collaboration and supervision. The Staff APP establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. The Staff APP begins to demonstrate a commitment to the community and to their healthcare profession.

The successful candidate will be placed according to years and months of experience for employment purposes.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the patients served as specified below
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span
  • Possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs
  • Provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures

Licensure, Education, Certifications, and Clearances

CRNP: 
  • The successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner program is required
  • BSN, MSN is preferred
  • Professional nursing experience and/or nurse practitioner experience is preferred
  • Current state RN license and CRNP certification are required
  • National certification, eligible for licensure by Pennsylvania board of nursing, eligible for certification as a CRNP by Pennsylvania state board of nursing
  • Current CPR certification is required
  • Act 33 Clearance will be required 
  • Act 73 Clearance will be required 
  • Act 34 Clearance required
PA: 
  • A graduate of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the physician assistant (ARC-PA) is required
  • BS or MS candidate is preferred
  • Experience as a physician assistant and/or experience in a clinical setting is preferred
  • Current state PA license certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required
  • Current CPR certification is required
  • Act 33 Clearance will be required 
  • Act 73 Clearance will be required
  • Act 34 Clearance required
