Description

Purpose:
This position oversees and directs all activities related to the UPMC International Training Center. The Training Center encompasses a series of programs aimed at UPMC's international clientele, providing best in class training and support for the development of their programs abroad. The Director also plays a pivotal role in supporting various business development proposal and the standardization of clinical operations in various countries and regions that are critical to UPMC International strategic initiatives. The International Training Center Director will coordinate the efforts for participants in the Physician and Executive International Health Care Management Program, the International Nurse Observership Program and other Training and Observership programs hosted across UPMC facilities. The Director will also collaborate with the UPMC International teams directing the International Administrative Fellowship Program. The Director will serve as the main point of contact with all international outreach efforts involved in recruiting participants to the programs. The Director must be an individual who is able to organize and work well within a diverse team, comprised of UPMC International and hospital leadership across the organization, as well as physicians, nurses, and other individuals key to the success of each of the International Training Center's programs.

Responsibilities:
    • Stakeholders engagement of working with various clinical and administrative Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and develop strategy to overcome fatigue potential of clinical and business subject matter experts and avoid overuse of preceptors.
    • Address emergent issues for program participants as they arise, often during nights and weekends. Bridge gaps in communication or understanding between trainees and UPMC personnel serving as preceptors or lecturers.
    • Carry out the goals and expectations of the Center including business and financial initiatives. Coach ITC team members to manage apartment set-up, organization and customer experience for trainees/visiting cohorts.
    • Collaborate and maintain effective relationships with administrative and medical leadership. Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to develop a branding and marketing outreach initiative consistent with UPMC International's strategic marketing activities.
    • Coordinate special projects.
    • Coordinate trainees' activities including contracting, invoicing, lodging and timeline for training. Communicate on a regular basis with the trainees.
    • Create a plan for greeting international VIP training delegations upon arrival to Pittsburgh or other UPMC host locations.
    • Create, maintain, and report on the status of the Center's strategic planning.Ensure adequate staffing to meet program goals, including staff development and performance management.
    • Ensure all training functions are managed efficiently and effectively and in compliance with all applicable policies and procedures and legal/regulatory pronouncements.
    • Foster collaboration and problem solving for the Center.
    • In collaboration with the medical and nursing leadership, ensure the curriculum, both virtual and on site, is complete and organized to meet the trainee's expectations. Follow up with trainees about the training received and incorporate suggestions for improvement.
    • Leverage UPMC operations in Italy and Ireland, when possible, to deliver clinical observerships or management training programs.
    • Maintain operational oversight of the Center, managing staff, and overseeing day to day operations and working to an agreed budget, including making recommendations on required capital expenditures.
    • Monitor International Training Center activities and operations and continuously implement solutions to achieve greater efficiency.
    • Monitor the costs, both domestic and international, and adjust as necessary.
    • Organize and lead International Training Center meetings as needed, to gain UPMC International executive team support in expanding the portfolio of training programs and/or evolving ITC strategies and business collaborations.
    • Organize and prioritize all education resources to ensure successful completion of assigned tasks in a timely manner for the Center.
    • Owning the relationships with all internal partners and managing the relationships to achieve agreement on Center direction on an on-going basis.
    • Participate in international assessment trips, acting as subject matter expert to describe, recommend, and develop training programs for client organization's local staff/leadership.
    • Participate in meetings with UPMC staff and International business partners and facilitate meetings as required to ensure communication is maintained and all interested parties are informed.
    • Prepare persuasive proposals for customers, documenting scope of services and program pricing. Recommend, develop and update strategic, long-range plans to support the philosophy and goals of the Center.
    • Supervise and oversee the Center budget and report to leadership on expenses and revenues on a monthly basis to monitor and analyze performance against goals.
    • Track and communicate trainee/attendee satisfaction data to leadership.
    • Work with Executive Kitchen and external agencies (i.e. car service, translation) to assure culturally appropriate catering for training cohorts and assure transportation and translation services are organized.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in Management, Business Administration or a related field and five years of management experience 
    • OR Master's Degree in business, healthcare administration or a related field with at least three years management experience. 
    • Experience working in global health care environment preferred. 
    • Prior staff management experience is a must. 
    • Bilingual in English-Mandarin or English-Russian preferred 
    • Can document experience in managing large-scale operations with a proven success rate. 
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
    • Experience with developing and pricing proposals for potential clients, including experience in developing training curriculum and product development. 
    • Demonstrated experience in problem solving and conflict management. 
    • Culturally sensitive and aware Customer service, problem solving and analytical skills required. 
    • Ability to travel domestically and internationally. 
    • Competent in working with Learning Management System and Microsoft programs including but not limited to MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Project etc. 
    • Project Management experience and certification preferred.
