Description

UPMC is looking for a Research Associate! This is a Full-Time position with up to 40 hours per week. Hours range Monday - Friday during daylight shifts. This position is within a lab that studies the molecular mechanisms that underlie psychiatric disorders. There is a particular interest in the role of circadian rhythms and the molecular clock in these disorders. They use a combination of rodent models and human postmortem brain tissue for this work.

This position will be responsible for breeding, weaning, genotyping and cataloging the mouse and rat colony. They will be involved in routine lab and administrative duties such as ordering of reagents and supplies, maintenance of IACUC and other protocols, getting new students and postdocs up and running and coordinating spending of lab personnel. They will also be involved in research projects as needed.  

This position is grant funded. 

Purpose:

Assist in the execution of research protocols and services.

Responsibilities:
  • Contact and schedule potential participants from a designated pool of individuals who have agreed to be contacted for research studies.
  • Conduct subject searches to locate subjects who are unable to be contacted.
  • Explain research protocol and obtain informed consent from participants.
  • Conduct on-line and/or library searches as needed by the PI as necessary.
  • Perform phone interviews for research project protocol(s) as needed.
  • Maintain and update subject information database.
  • Conduct interviews with research participants under supervision as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in psychology, neuroscience, counseling, sociology or related research field or current enrollment in a related Bachelor's Degree program with direct experience in a research environment required.
  • Familiarity with computers and common software packages required
  • Prior related work experience in a research setting preferred
  • Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred
