UPMC Susquehanna - Divine Providence Hospital is currently hiring multiple Safety Sitters to work on a casual basis, and this could be the perfect next step for you!

As a Safety Sitter on the Behavioral Health Unit, you will ensure that our hospital rooms, and all patients, are safe from harm. You will learn new tasks and techniques at our provided 2-hour training course that will help you succeed in this role. No experience is required for this, simply a willingness to learn and help!

We are hiring multiple Safety Sitters to cover shifts 24/7 on the floor. We're looking for candidates that have availability on weekends, in addition to the week whether that's day, evening, or overnights. The casual requirement is to work at least one 8-hour shift per week on the unit.


Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides diversion activities to patient as needed to assure safety.
  • Provides comfort measures to patient as needed to assure safety; e.g. additional pillow placement, drink of water as appropriate, repositioning of extremities on request, etc. 
  • Encourage patient and family involvement in processes involving patient safety.
  • Reports any activity outside normal parameters to assigned RN
  • Report serious events and incidents per policy. 
  • Works under direction of the RN to observe patient behavior and maintain patient safety, and communicates information in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.

  • Improve the patient experience through the use of a rounding routine. 
  • Incorporate leading/evidence-based practice in quality and safety into everyday work. 
  • Commit to high quality and safe work, and encourage others to do the same. Identify processes/systems that could lead to inefficient practices, unsafe conditions, errors, or adverse events. 
  • Avoid shortcuts to ensure quality and safety measures are not circumvented. 
  • Speak up with other service partners to ensure high quality and safety.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required
  • Applicants who are hired will be required to successfully complete a training course.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
• CPR within 30 days of beginning employment
• Basic Life Support or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation
