Description

UPMC is seeking a Program Manager to oversee a pilot program partnership between the UPMC Health Plan and the Wolff Center for Quality, Safety, and Innovation. The program is a new musculoskeletal & orthopaedics initiative designed to improve outcomes and decrease costs of total joint replacement and spine care UPMC Health Plan members. The Program Manager is a unique opportunity to facilitate program operations within an integrated delivery and finance system. The role is expected to grow in line with program expansion.

The Program Manager will develop, implement, manage and evaluate initiatives and educational materials for all UPMCHP relevant populations. Responsibilities will include strategic planning, senior level presentations, client meetings with upper management, project planning and management, account management, coordination with many internal departments and external facilities, evaluating and reporting. The Program Manager must support the Medical Director for Outcomes and Registries and be recognized in a lead role by other staff and departments within the Health Plan. This position may manage relevant support staff.

The ideal candidate will have experience in health care/insurance operations and administration, or a clinical background with a desire to work in health care administration. The Program Manager will split time between the US Steel Tower in downtown Pittsburgh and the Kaufmann Medical Building in Oakland.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage various programs, campaigns, and events related to area of program expertise.
  • Work with various internal and external customers to provide relevant deliverables.

  • Implement programs for maximum clinical results and member satisfaction.

  • Summarize and interpret program results for key stakeholders.

  • Coordinate related activities of UPMCHSD and UPMCHP departments as necessary to ensure that all aspects of each program are successful and that all impacted departments are aware of progress/updates.

  • Design and develop new project plans for new programs/events as needed, including all policies and procedures, program outlines, contracts as needed with participating facilities, and all marketing materials.

  • As relevant, manage staff to aid in project implementation.

  • Responsible for representing the MSK Service Line and UPMC Health Plan at internal, external forums, committees and presentations for our collaborative initiatives.

  • Manage strategic clinical business plan to ensure attainment of strategic business initiatives within MSK program.

  • Responsible for participating in planning, implementing and managing work plans to ensure program timelines, goals and objectives are met.

  • Responsible for coordinating the preparation of executive reports and presentations.

  • Responsible for developing and maintaining relationships for providers and clinical staff participating in the programs.

  • Responsible for assuring staff training and education to support the achievement of the program goals is implemented.

  • Responsible for travel to external providers and clients related to program implementation and monitoring.

  • Responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external customers and contracted providers.

  • Initiate and set goals and new initiatives according to the strategic objectives of the organization and department ensuring all deadlines and milestones are met.

  • Work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions enhancing organizational effectiveness. 

  • Work in tandem with other members of UPMC in order to advance mission at large.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in health administration or related health field preferred; or Bachelors degree with demonstrated successful experience in clinical program administration and/or other health related discipline.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Management experience preferred. Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word and Excel. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
  • Financial analytic skills preferred.
  • A minimum of five to seven years of applicable experience in health care delivery is required. 3 years in health care insurance preferred.
  • Candidate must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be able to interact and negotiate with all facets of the wellness industry.
  • Excellent planning, documentation, organizational, analytical and problem solving skills are also required.
  • Candidate must demonstrate leadership and project management skills.
  • Ability to map re-engineering processes to positively impact clinical care delivery.
  • Ability to work with and take direction from Senior Management.
  • Desire to continue upward progression within organization.
  • Licensed as a clinician (RN, PT, OT or another relevant field) preferred.
