The Employee Transit Department at UPMC is growing and has a training opportunity for individuals interested in obtaining their CDL with Passenger Endorsement.


This is a wonderful opportunity to attend in-house training to learn the skills needed to take the State Department of Transportation Commercial Drivers License (CDL) exam in order to successfully perform the duties of a Shuttle Bus Operator position.


Shuttle Bus Operator Trainees participate in all training activities provided by the department. If you are looking for benefits and plenty of room for career growth, we invite you to explore this opportunity today! Trainees who do not complete the training or do not pass the CDL exam per program guidelines will be terminated.

  • Learns to maintain ridership information and report per company processes and maintain route standards and only stray from designated route with permission of management or law enforcement.
  • Learns D.O.T. compliance requirements. And how to remain compliant with all regulations and guidelines established by the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration (FMCSA), Driver License, Medical Card, Motor Vehicle Resource (MVR).
  • Develop and foster a strong working relationship with all riders and co-workers. Provide the highest level of customer service to all passengers. Demonstrate safe working and driving actions. Complies with all UPMC Employee Transit policies and procedures.
  • Participates actively in maintaining cleanliness standards in bus's and UPMC facilities.
  • Fuel vehicle according to company policy.


  • High School Graduate/GED is required.
  • Valid drivers license is required. 
  • Strong customer service background. 
  • Ability to manage change in a busy environment required. 
  • Good driving record required.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Both Commercial Drivers License Class B and Passenger Endorsement are required within 6 months of hire
  • DOT Medical Card Clearance
