Magee Women's Research Institute Foundation handles all fundraising for Magee-Women's Research Institute and UPMC Magee Women's Hospital. The ideal candidate will develop and implement a grateful patient fundraising program by working closely with Physician Champions. The Director of Development will also be responsible for planning and creating strategies to generate major individual gifts and enhancing the donor stewardship program. The incumbent must possess a demonstrated ability in securing major gifts and pledges from individuals and have experience leading a team of major gift officers; clinical fundraising experience is preferred. A proven ability to develop a variety of fundraising methods, plans, and strategies is a must to guarantee a successful outcome.

  • Work to achieve and maintain quality and customer satisfaction in the delivery of services to internal/external customers.
  • Promote personal and co-worker safety during work duties.
  • Maintain and protect patient, donor, and Foundation confidentiality.
  • Foster an atmosphere of cooperation and culture to assure MWRIF will provide a quality management service to all constituents..
  • Demonstrate support of MWRIF's mission and philosophy in delivery of services.
  • Assure accountability for staff completion of assignments in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Manage and input donor and prospect information in the Raisers Edge database.
  • Review and monitor metrics for all gift officers to ensure they remain on track and focused.
  • Develop and maintain a donor stewardship program. Assure appropriate and timely correspondence/communication is carried out with donors.
  • Assist in the development and management of individual gift officer portfolios.
  • Implement fundraising strategies by maintaining personal contact with prospects. Involve MWRI and MWRIF leadership, faculty, volunteers, and staff as required.
  • Provide management, mentorship and oversight to the Gift Officer team to manage them to their collective and individual goals. Motivate, develop, and evaluate staff. Manage the major gifts pipeline for MWRIF.
  • Develop and implement fundraising strategies for qualification, cultivation, and solicitation of prospects (individual, corporate, and foundation) for major gifts in support of MWRIF.


  • Bachelor's Degree with 5-7 years of management experience 
  • Master's degree with five years of relevant experience may be substituted. 
  • Highly developed, strong, and effective interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a wide and diverse range of constituencies are essential. 
  • Sound judgement, a clear understanding of ethical standards related to development activities, and discretion in interactions with donors, prospects, volunteers and others are mandatory.
