Director, Ambulatory Services

Description

Purpose:
Under the supervision and direction of the Senior Director, Ambulatory and Diagnostics, this position is responsible for project work towards the effective management of ambulatory operations. Project work includes participation in the development and maintenance of responsible clinical, operational, regulatory and fiscal aspects of the ambulatory services. Additionally, this individual is responsible for maintaining a state of constant readiness for JCAHO activities across the Institute.

Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrates the ability to engage with medical staff as partners in achieving mutual goals of clinical quality and organizational/programmatic success while providing timely follow-up on patient/physician complaints
  • Participate in executing improvements in the administration of clinical, fiscal and administrative operations for ambulatory programs and services.
  • Provide follow up for deficiencies identified through proficiency testing programs and ensures corrective action plans are in place.
  • Participate in identifying and working towards improvements in clinical and administrative operations. .
  • Establish processes to ensure continuity of care for patients evaluated and treated by clinicians, including timely communication with patients and referring physicians.
  • Create a work environment conducive to productive performance and job satisfaction. Ensures open communication, sensitivity to personal problems and recognition of performance. Conduct monthly staff meetings for the purpose of dissemination of information and monitoring employee concerns, needs and suggestions.
  • Facilitate compliance with JCAHO requirements by continually monitoring the organization's service delivery system, initiating change as required and providing oversight of the regulatory function for all services as a conduit to P-S.
  • In conjunction with senior management, responsible for developing operating and capital budget and ensuring that the department meets budget goals.
  • Demonstrate the ability to establish priorities and perform assignments in the allotted time frames while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Manage all human-resources functions of the department, including hiring and terminating of employees in accordance with policy and identifying educational needs of the staff including assessment of competencies and coordinate training of employees as necessary.
  • Provide support to Director/VP for all internal activities regarding areas of clinical support and safety

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive responsibility in health care administration and program development. 
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in an academic medical center OR successful complete of the Administrative Fellowship program. 
  • Excellent communication, managerial, organizational and problem solving skills as demonstrated by past experience. 
  • Must also have knowledge of external regulatory requirements including JCAHO, DPW and Allegheny County. 
  • Position requires an individual who is skilled in verbal and written communication and collaborates well.
