Across UPMC, our guiding principle is to always prioritize the safety of our employees, patients, and members. UPMC believes that vaccination is important, helps protect all, and advocates that everyone who can be vaccinated should be vaccinated.

UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

The System Nursing Resources LPN is a member of a casual nursing float pool that supports short-term scheduling needs across UPMC Senior Communities in. The System Nursing Resources LPN, under the direction of a registered nurse, provides routine patient care within the scope of the Practical Nurse Act of Pennsylvania.
 

This position offers 26.27 /hour!



Responsibilities:

  • Strictly adhere to all policies and practices relative to patient care and hospital-related information.
  • Suggest and support changes within the department.
  • Take action to improve knowledge, skills, and performance-based on feedback or on self-identified developmental needs.
  • Serve as a preceptor for new staff members.
  • Serve as a resource for staff and other disciplines.
  • Request assistance and review relevant policies and procedures prior to performing new or challenging skills.
  • Request assistance to help in planning and prioritizing activities as needed.
  • Provide appropriate, direct patient care.
  • Give injections, take vital signs, perform basic diagnostic tests, observe patients, dress wounds and administer medication.
  • Perform assigned work in a timely and productive manner.
  • Participate in health care conferences.
  • Participate in project and committee work.
  • Participate in self-review as requested by direct supervisor.
  • Observe and record patient's symptoms, condition, and/or reactions to medications and treatments and report results to the RN in charge.
  • Maintain current CPR certification at Health Care Provider level.
  • Maintains accurate patient clinical records, executes physician's orders, and maintains accurate problem-oriented nurses notes which reflect conditions, response to treatment, progress, and re-assessment in accordance with accepted nursing standards.
  • Identify and communicate learning needs to the unit director/clinician/supervisor.
  • Establish appropriate and effective communication strategies.
  • Establish professional and respectful interpersonal relationships.
  • Demonstrate awareness of behavior on the efficient functioning of the department.
  • Contribute to the universal unit activities including, but not limited to, responding to call lights and telephones, passing meal trays, and transporting patients.
  • Constructively receive feedback and direction.
  • Comply with established medication use policies.
  • Comply with safety policies and procedures including standard precautions.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and families about hospital stay and home care concerns.
  • Instruct and demonstrate care.
  • Discuss any patient or family concerns with RN in charge so that issue can be appropriately addressed.
  • Assure equipment malfunctions are reported to the appropriate department.
  • Assume responsibility for patient assignments.
  • Assist the RN and interdisciplinary team in evaluating, planning, and implementing plans of care.

 

Qualifications

  • 1 year of recent/relevant nursing experience required
  • Completion of a Practical Nursing Program approved by the State Board of Nursing. 
  • Excellent communication skills necessary to effectively interact with patients, family members, visitors, and staff members. 
  • Basic computer skills are necessary to input patient care orders and medical record documentation.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • Act 34
  • OAPSA
