Community Care is looking for a curious and intrepid designer to help us understand our users and design for their goals and behaviors. From composing screens into flows, to collaborating closely with our development team, you'll have the autonomy to work on high-impact features that are transforming the future of behavioral healthcare access! UPMC has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Visual Designer II position. This position will support our Management Information Systems department, within the Community Care Behavioral Health business unit. 

  

This is a Monday – Friday, daylight position and while the position is based in downtown Pittsburgh at the Heinz 57 Center, this team has transitioned to working remotely full-time and will continue to do so post-COVID-19.  Qualified candidates from remote regional or US locations are welcome to apply.

Responsibilities:

  • Work on the user experience across multiple products, on mobile and web.
  • Work closely with other team members to develop and expand product design patterns.
  • Help developers and product managers define both the long-term strategy and the short-term tactics for our products.
  • Sometimes work on very broadly defined, loose concepts, and sometimes on narrowly defined, tactical features.
  • Work in a highly collaborative fashion with the design and product teams.
  • Consider all parts of the experience, from copy to animations to the business model, when designing.
  • Ability to sketch before hopping into software.
  • Wireframing experience and prototyping experience.
  • Design experience in a consumer application, product, or software role.
  • Experience with Sketch, Illustrator, Figma, etc.
  • A desire to keep pushing your work until all details are attended to.
  • The ability to explain your work, process, and decisions, and seek feedback to help you produce your best work.
Exceptional candidates will have:

  • Experience participating in or leading user research sessions.
  • Experience participating in or leading usability testing.
  • Experience designing for ADA-compliance.
  • Experience presenting research results to stakeholders

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a design-focused program such as graphic design, architecture, industrial design, communication design from an accredited college or university (comparable degree, Associate's degree, and/or experience will be considered, including internships).
  • Three years professional experience in visual design using a range of media such as video, audio, animations, illustrations, and prototyping software for storytelling and consumer product design.
  • Experience in the health care or insurance industries preferred.
  • Experience in translating complex ideas and insights into easily understood visual experiences across a variety of situations including but not limited to consumer product prototypes, executive level presentation visuals, infographics, etc.
  • Experience with digital product development experience with proven ability to translate business and user problems into solid solutions (preferred).
  • Working knowledge of design tools including but not limited to Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Axure, UserTesting.com, Optimal Workshop, or equivalent software.
