This is a full-time Inpatient Hospice Registered Nurse (RN) position.  This role would work three 12 hour shifts per week rotating days and nights (7 to 7). This position would report to the inpatient unit at Canterbury Place.   

***This position is eligible for a $5,000 sign on bonus.***


Plans, coordinates and provides direct and skilled nursing care to terminally ill patients in conjunction with the physician and the hospice interdisciplinary team. Provides emotional support and education to patients and their caregivers.

  • Assesses patient needs in relation to symptom management, comfort, emotional and psycho-social problems.  
  • Develops a Multidisciplinary Plan of Care to ensure that professional standards are met and that care is implemented in the most optimal way.
  • Maintains a continuing and confidential record of patient's care, progress and outcomes in compliance with federal, state and FHPC regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Provides direct patient care by administering oral, intramuscular, and intravenous medications and by performing a variety of treatments and procedures to assure comfort and symptom control.
  • Determines daily work schedule to ensure excellent quality of patient care and maximum number of patient visits per day.
  • Determines the need for assignment of a licensed practical nurse and/or home health aide or other health care professional and coordinates their participation in the patient's care.
  • Evaluates the Plan of Care and implements and/or coordinates changes as necessary. Involves the interdisciplinary team in discussion of the patient's needs and implementation of changes.
  • Provides home health teaching and appropriate counseling for the patient and family regarding the unique care needs of the patient.


  • Associates degree or diploma in nursing from an approved school of nursing. 
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing program from an approved school of nursing preferred. 
  • Current PA RN licensure. 
  • Nurses assigned to the community nurses are required to travel extensively, 100%. 
  • Minimum 6 months of clinical experience performing direct patient care services including invasive procedures and developing therapeutic programs preferred. 
  • Hospice experience preferred. 
  • Ability to operate the following the following or similar machinery and equipment: venous access devices, oxygen therapy machines, infusion pumps, suction machines and feeding pumps. 
  • Knowledge of Suncoast or similar technology to process patient notes, progress reports and records. CPR certification including adult one-person rescue, adult two-person rescue, pediatric CPR and to free both adult and pediatric obstructed airways. 
  • Nurses assigned to the community must have and maintain a valid driver's license and driver's record void of DUIs, major driving convictions or suspensions or revocations within the last seven years or three moving violations in the last three years and a reliable, insured vehicle.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
UPMC approved national certification preferred. Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse. CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
