Description
Under supervision, responsible for all fiscal functions necessary to ensure the prompt and correct payment to the hospital provider of all monies owed by insurers. Communicate with insurance companies, patients, physicians and vendors regarding payment issues and recommend write-offs according to UPMC policies. Review posting and balancing of payment/denial and adjustment transactions necessary for closing accounts.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and recommend referrals to agency, law firm, Financial Assistance and Bad Debt.
- Identify issues and submit corrective action recommendations.
- Update system notes with account activity, status and expected reimbursement. Utilize the correct reprint/bill codes, denial codes, barrier codes, status codes, etc.
- Understand Third Party billing and collections regulations.
- Meet quality assurance, benchmark standards and maintain productivity levels as defined by management.
- Ensure timeliness and accuracy of billings, collections, contractual postings, payments, and adjustments of accounts based upon their functional area standards.
- Escalate problem accounts as applicable.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the current functionality of the patient accounting systems.
Qualifications
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- 4 years of experience in a business office setting required.
- Must be multi-disciplined in billing, collections, denials, credit balances and/or the various payors.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication and efective problem solving skills required.
- Must be able to communicate with patients, payors, outside agencies, and general public through telephone, electronic and written correspondence.
- Prior experience on personal computes, calculators and various office equipment is needed.
- Prior collections or medical billing experience with basic understanding of coding and medical terminology preferred.
- Must display leadership skills.
