Skilled Maintenance Technician

Are you interested in a position that offers terrific benefits and opportunities to grow?  Do you enjoy working “hands on” in a team environment?  UPMC Northwest is hiring a full time, varied shift, Skilled Maintenance Technician who will be responsible for managing work orders for troubleshooting and repair of HVAC, plumbing, and hospital equipment.  Shifts will vary from 7 am-3:30 pm, 8 am- 4:30 pm, and 11 am-7:30 pm.  When assigned an on call weekend, emergency repairs may be needed.    


Purpose:

Performs all required general and preventive maintenance providing the smooth operation of UPMC Northwest and a safe environment for personnel, patients and visitors.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform major/minor projects, construction and/or renovations in compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Perform all duties in a manner that makes for a pleasant and safe environment within the facility.
  • May provide patient restraint if properly trained and physically capable to do so and only as directed by appropriate nursing personnel.
  • The ability to read detailed blue prints.
  • Perform all required maintenance and repair on all hospital systems/equipment and buildings and grounds to provide continuous operation and a safe environment for personnel, patients, and visitors.
  • Perform all phases of grounds maintenance, including, but not limited to, lawn care and snow removal.
  • Perform in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
  • May be required to take department call.

Qualifications

Educational/Knowledge Requirements: 
  • High school graduate or GED. 
  • Vocational technical training preferred. 
  • Appropriate training for individual trades with 3 years experience in commercial/institutional construction or maintenance. 
Skills/Abilities/Equipment:  
  • Skills and abilities need to be at the appropriate level to the individuals' trade/s. Trades include: Plumbing, HVACR, Carpentry, Electrician, Painting, Telecommunications, Maintenance Mechanic.  
  • Must be a highly motivated professional with the ability to evaluate small projects and address them in a cost effective way.
  • May in the course of their duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with medications is allowed.

  • Act 34
