Description
The EMS Communications Specialist is responsible for processing incoming patient transport requests and processing all incoming phone calls in a timely manner; and is responsible for processing all condition codes, monitoring fire alarms, addressing security requests, and providing phone operator service during off hours.Responsibilities:
- Efficiently schedule non-medically necessary transportation for eligible clients/consumers as designated by the UPMC Health Plan
- The EMS Communication Specialist is responsible for coordinating all parts of the transportation process by working directly with the member, the applicable EMS vendor, and all other parties as necessary.
- Plan and coordinate transportation via the appropriate mode in accordance with the policies and procedures of the UPMC Health Plan
- Receive emergency calls and process appropriately
- Provide exceptional customer service according to UPMC policies and procedures
- Receive and document medical command reports and notify the emergency department
- Monitor hospital alarm systems
- Coordinate medical command requests from paramedic to physician and document the request
- The EMS Communication Specialist is responsible for the tracking the number of trips used and the number of trips the member has remaining
- Process incoming calls
- Document all information in the Zoll RightCad system
- Efficiently process medically necessary patient transportation requests on a timely basis.
- Receive hospital condition codes and send out notification page per policy and procedure
- Perform hospital operator duties on the overnight shift
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent required
- Must possess strong computer skills
- Current or prior EMS experience required
- A minimum of one (1) year dispatch experience preferred
- Knowledge of the ZOLL Right Cad automated dispatch program preferred
- Working knowledge of healthcare and health insurance preferred
- Familiarity with medical terminology preferred
- Ability to multitask Must possess good communication skills
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Current EMT or paramedic certification preferred
