Description
To assist or coordinate the functions, resources, and programs essential for quality care and to provide a high level of nutrition-related expertise in the interdisciplinary team management of all hospitalized patients. Position incorporates a combination of program management tasks and direct and indirect patient care.
Responsibilities:
- Provide appropriate nutrition education and counseling based on patient/family learning needs and abilities.
- In collaboration with manager/director participate as a member of interdisciplinary committees, responding to needs and initiatives for nutrition care process improvement.
- Develop, implement and evaluate nutrition programs, including preparing materials, presentations, and other communications, and contribute to relevant department, hospital or system-wide policies. (May be on an inpatient and/or outpatient basis).
- Assist in developing goals and objectives for Clinical Nutrition to maintain high quality care.
- Lead and encourage professional growth and development for self and clinical team.
- Deliver and oversee quality nutrition care to a diverse patient population within established criteria.
- Contribute to maintaining clinical budget and expectations by monitoring and maintaining expenses and man-hour utilization, including implementing appropriate staffing levels; as required, oversee outpatient billing to ensure compliance of client charges with regulatory requirements.
- Direct and mentor dietetic students, peers and support personnel.
- Provides expertise and support for menu planning and maintenance of the nutrition-related computer software.
- Identify, participate and/or lead in Quality Process Improvement activities with the ability to actively endorse evidence based practice.
- Maintain and expand knowledge of current trends and issues in health care, food and clinical nutrition services, TJC standards and healthcare informatics.
- Assumes duties of manager in his/her absence.
- Manage recruitment, hiring, training, evaluation and competency of personnel; maintains a quality workforce.
- Schedule and/or coordinate daily work flow.
Qualifications
- Masters or B.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics.
- 5 years healthcare experience with minimum of 4 years in clinical nutrition and 1 year in a leadership role.
- Skills: Strong leadership and motivational skills to evaluate and develop a diverse Clinical Nutrition Team.
- Strong analytical skills to design, implement, enhance and trouble-shoot nutrition programs and processes.
- Function with a high degree of autonomy and use high level decision-making to demonstrate efficiency and problem solving techniques to achieve desired results and effect change.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and collaborate with a diverse population in a team environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Sound clinical judgment in Medical Nutrition Therapy.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
-Registered Dietitian with Commission on Dietetic Registration. -Maintenance of registration as demonstrated by 75 CEU credits every 5 years. -Maintenance of specialty certification as specified by governing body, if applicable. Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and maintenance of PA-LDN as demonstrated by 30 CEU credits every 2 years.
