Description
Responsibilities:
- Avoid shortcuts to ensure quality and safety measures are not circumvented. Encourage patient and family involvement in processes involving patient safety. Understand that patient safety is everyone's responsibility. Assume responsibility for personal education and performance related to patient safety; report unsafe conditions or events immediately; speak up in a non confrontational and educational manner when seeing a safety breech; develop or participate in a project or action plan to reduce risk or mitigate harm for patients, as appropriate.
- Identifies recurring practice problems and their impact on nursing activities and contributes to the development of specific plans to resolve these problems.
- Discharges patients and handles all follow up calls requesting physician input as needed.
- Incorporates a multi-disciplinary approach to collaborating with neuroscience and pain management providers as well as providers throughout the organization to facilitate appropriate coordination of care and follow up.
- Educates and counsels patients and family members on diagnostic testing/results, procedures, neurological diagnosis, medications, plan of care, etc.
- Schedules patient appointments, diagnostic tests, procedures and referrals to other physicians maintaining follow-up as needed.
- Performs nursing duties and assists providers in coordinating patient care in the office and hospital.
- Completes all required forms for third party payors as appropriate.
- Neuroscience RN: Performs suture and staple removal and post-op evaluation and triage of wounds and concerns. Responsible for programming and adjustment of shunts. Performs as a first assistant in the operating room according to physician preference.
- Pain Management RN: Performs IV start and sedation and monitors the recovery of sedated patients. Responsible for the programming and maintenance of surgically implanted pain pumps and spinal cord stimulators. Provides assistance in the operating room when a case goes to the OR and the OR is unable to staff.
- Provides device interrogations and function analysis, troubleshooting and reprogramming devices as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelors of Nursing preferred.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Registered Nurse licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania required.
