Magee Women’s Hospital of UPMC is a world class center for both women’s health and comprehensive medical-surgical care. A full-service hospital, Magee offers services for both men and women including cardiology, geriatrics, urology, bone and joint, bariatric surgery and spine, to name just a few.


This position will work 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at least two days per week, including occasional weekends. Additional days are possible if coverage is needed. There is some travel involved with flexibility in coverage for off-site locations. Hours are subject to change based on business needs.


The Dietitian II will provide a high level of nutrition-related expertise in the interdisciplinary team management of all hospitalized patients.

Responsibilities:

  • As required, knowledgeable about outpatient billing guidelines and performs necessary documentation to ensure compliance of client charges with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide in-servicing or CEU opportunities to the multidisciplinary team at the department or facility level.
  • Formulate a Nutrition Diagnosis and identify Malnutrition through application of Nutrition Focused Physical Assessment and the nationally established criteria for identification of malnutrition.
  • Appropriate execution of order writing as governed by the Dietitian Delegation Order system protocol.
  • Provide appropriate nutritional education and counseling based upon patient/family learning needs and abilities.
  • Demonstrate effective communication methods as a collaborative member of the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Mentor and train dietetic students, interns and support personnel and provide feedback for student and program improvement.
  • Provide timely interventions as determined by Nutrition Risk level and the Plan of Care.
  • Provide quality patient care to diverse patient populations using Medical Nutrition Therapy to include assessment, goals and plan of care.
  • Lead one department initiative/professional contribution through to completion annually with the ability to actively endorse evidence-based practice.
  • Accountable as nutrition liaison/expert to assigned units & participate as a member of interdisciplinary committees, responding to needs and initiatives for nutrition care process improvement.
  • As required, demonstrate professional writing skills adaptable to all health literacy levels in preparing materials, presentations and other communications
  • Participate in CQI initiatives and/or departmental projects as required, with follow through to completion.
  • MWH Responsibilities: Identify appropriate nutritional risk of patients and intervene based on established criteria.
  • Maintain basic clinical practice skills and purses advanced practice skills based on current technology and research.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics degree with 3 years clinical nutrition experience as a registered dietitian OR Masters in Nutrition and Dietetics with 1 year clinical nutrition experience as a registered dietitian required.
  • Skills:
    • Analytical skills to accurately assess, plan, and evaluate outcomes.
    • Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse population and collaborate in a team environment.
    • Strong nutrition education/counseling and mentoring skills.
    • Critical thinking skills for sound decision making.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Registered Dietitian (RD) with Commission on Dietetic Registration. Maintenance of registration as demonstrated by 75 CEU credits every 5 years.
    • MWH Licensure/Certification: Registered Dietitian with Commission on Dietetic Registration or registry eligible with employment contingent upon passing the RD examination within 6 months of date of hire.
  • Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and maintenance of PA-LDN as demonstrated by 30 CEU credits every 2 years.
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
