Job Summary:

Are you a current student in College looking to gain experience in both customer service and healthcare? If so, apply to take the next step to learn more about careers at UPMC! UPMC Corporate Services is hiring a student to learn about customer service and help improve our patient's experience. This casual position will work a minimum of 10 hours Monday through Friday, during daylight business hours.  This role will require travel to local UPMC physician offices in Pittsburgh as well as Cranberry.

Our Patient Access employees act as advocates for patients by providing guidance, interpretation and education on scheduling, registration, billing, claim status, various customer related inquires, checking patients in and out of their appointments, and much more. The student worker will be responsible for observing, auditing, and reporting on our patient's experience at various physician practices and clinics throughout UPMC so that we can share best practices across the system. The candidate will be required to travel to different UPMC offices throughout the area as well as be available to meet on site at our Quantum I building.

  • The successful candidate will interact with other employees and provide assistance for routine tasks
  • Perform routine tasks under the guidance of the department manager/supervisor.


  • Current enrollment in a High School program, equivalent, or higher, required.
  • Current sophomore , junior or senior in College program preferred.
  • The candidate will have a working knowledge of the Microsoft system. 
  • Related experience to the program/study/research is preferred.
  • Candidate should have an interest in field of study.
  • The successful candidate must be able to work within a team environment under direct supervision. 
  • The candidate must possess the ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff. 
  • The candidate must be able to perform routine tasks under the guidance of senior staff.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Act 34 Criminal Clearance
