UPMC System Security is seeking an Application Delivery Engineer to assist with maintaining Operational SLA’s as well as projects and initiatives. This resource will be responsible for supporting the Enterprise Application Delivery Controllers and securing all apps from client to server, layers 1-7. They will also gain exposure to all aspects of UPMC System Security IT including construction, servers, networking, security, back office applications, business applications, clinical applications, advanced analytics and reporting.

Support the Information Security Group's efforts to develop secure systems and networks through the identification and use of automated tools, execution of security processes, procedures and reporting. Work with Data Stewards and Application Support representatives to ensure delivery of highly available and secure applications.

  • Provide service to ISD client community, patients, families and visitors, while protecting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of all data and information through physical and electronic measures.
  • Deploys application configurations, following UPMC Architecture and Design standards and best practices.
  • Resolve incidents reported to team and/or gathers necessary information to escalate and effectively communicate issue to senior team members.
  • Complete on the job training, self-study, and obtain certifications to maintain and enhance knowledge of technical and business capabilities. Seeks feedback from senior team members for development and effectively incorporates feedback into work and behaviors.
  • Ensure that all applicable Policies and Standards are strictly adhered to in the execution of their duties.
  • Participates in 24x7 on call rotation and supports Application Delivery changes and issues outside of standard business hours as needed. Provides local and remote support as required by ISD's Disaster Recovery Plan.
  • Able to establish priorities and escalate tasks to the appropriate personnel or work independently as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain service levels with the various user departments and Heath System business units, and creates reports on the attainment of those levels.
  • Apply process improvement (CMMI) to increase product and service quality to achieve business objectives.


  • Typically has a 2 year academic degree including courses in computer networking, computer programming, systems analysis, system development, systems engineering or has acquired Core IT skills and knowledge via practical experience.
  • Ability to utilize external resources and rely on buddy system/coach to demonstrate applied skills and to guide non-routine actions.
  • General Knowledge of:
    • Standard IT procedures and protocols.
    • Information Systems Networking and OSI Reference Model, Load Balancing methods and technologies.
    • System development life cycle, disaster recovery, and change management practices.
