UPMC Seeking Vice Chair of Clinical Research

Function:
The overall function of the Vice Chair of Clinical Research is to oversee and manage the clinical research activities of the Department of Anesthesiology’s faculty in compliance with standards and regulations set forth by TJC and other regulatory agencies and the Hospital and Medical Staff Bylaws Rules, Regulations, Policies and Procedures. The Department Vice Chair may also have clinical operating room responsibilities depending on specialty.

Administrative Responsibilities:
• Establish and revise criteria and/or protocol for clinical research activities for the Department of Anesthesiology.
• Assure regular review and evaluation of all quality and appropriateness of clinical research activities rendered by members of the Department
• Participate in Department budgetary planning and assists in the preparation of all reports.
• Serve on committees as assigned by the Department Chair, President of the Medical Staff and/or Chief Executive Officer.
• Contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge in the specialty of general Anesthesiology through basic and/or applied research investigation either independently or in conjunction with other investigators.
• Participate and provide leaders hip in the peer review, corrective action and other matters involving compliance by Department members with Medical Staff and Hospital Bylaws, Rules, Regulations, Policies and Procedures.

Qualifications

• Board certified in one of the following:
o Anesthesia
o Pain Management
o Critical Care
• Licensed in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
• Appointment to the Hospital’s Active Medical Staff
• Appointment to the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine Faculty
• Proven administrative capabilities in leading and managing clinical research endeavors; leadership skills are essential
• Proven commitment to clinical research and demonstrated ability at grant writing
